- ItemImpact of Government Entrepreneurial Programmes on Youth SMES Participation in Nigeria(2015-08-03) Adebayo, Philips OlugbengaGlobally, the youth have been considered as prime mover of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) due to their creative ability, energy and the drive to achieve. However, weak entrepreneurial climate has been a major constraint militating against the drive for self-reliance and economic autonomy and has resulted to increasing rate of unemployment, vandalism and other social vices among the youth. This study attempts to examine the relationship between government entrepreneurial programmes on youth SMEs participation in Nigeria. A survey of 250 questionnaires was undertaking through an online platform across the beneficiaries of federal governmental SMEs financial intervention schemes – Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YouWiN). The data collected were analyzed utilizing correlation and multiple regression statistical tools. The study concludes that government intervention programmes such as financial, infrastructural and capacity building is paramount to new venture creation among the youth. The findings further reveal a significant positive correlation between availability of fund and new venture creation. The study recommends conscious youth entrepreneurial orientation and capacity development programmes through the outlets of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). Furthermore, more financial intervention schemes such as grants and soft/special loans should be provided to young entrepreneurs as this will alleviate a major constraint to new venture creation which is poor access to finance.
- ItemDeveloping Informal Financing Option for Rural SMEs Growth: a Case of Selected Local Government Areas of Kwara State, Nigeria(International Journal of Management Sciences and Business Research, 2015-09-05) Adebayo, Philips OlugbengaBased on statistical evidences in the last couple of years, Nigeria’s economy is one of the rapidly growing in the world and the fastest growing in Africa. However, in real terms, its people are the most impoverished with high poverty concentration in the rural areas. This study investigates Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and how the informal financing option could boost their performance in the rural areas. A sample of 185 SMEs was selected in a cross- sectional survey research design across two (2) Local Government Areas of Kwara State who are typically rural areas. The returned questionnaires of 125 i.e. (78.1%) were according analyzed using regression and t-test analyses. The findings show that 91.2% of the sample relied only on informal sources of finance for their businesses while 4.0% and 4.8% have accessed the formal and government funding respectively. The study concludes that informal financing option is germane to improving rural SMEs as this will create business expansion, provide more jobs and ultimately reduce high rate of poverty in the rural communities. The paper recommends that government should through Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BOI), Bank of Agriculture (BOA) etc. provide special intervention fund for informal financing channels. Furthermore, international NGOs such as FATE, MTN, Bill and Merlyn Foundations, and other international financial institutions such as African Development Bank (AfDB) International Finance Corporation (IFC) should develop a partnership programme with informal finance providers in Nigeria.
- ItemStakeholder Approach To Corporate Social Responsibility: A Recipe For Sustainable Development(AI-Hikmah Management Review AMR, 2016) Olanipekun Wahid D.; Brimah Aminu N.; Abdulkareem Zulfah J.; Rabiu Rukayat OThis study investigated the relationship between adoption of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and sustainable development with particular emphasis on MTN, Nigeria. Questionnaire administration technique via a structured questionnaire was used to source for data and information from stakeholders. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Pearson Chi Square analysis was used to analyze the data with the aid of Stat a II. 0 statistical software package. The study concludes that the adoption of CSR programs such as skill acquisition, youth empowerment, support for economic, education, and. health development etc indeed has a significant relationship on development of the society. It is recommended that government has a role to play in promoting CSR through creating legislative and regulatory framework that would encourage companies to balance social, environmental and economic concerns given the already intense pressure brought by stakeholders globally on utilization of resources in line with the principles of sustainable development that underpins the concept of CSR.

BrimahThis study investigated the impact of adoption of electronic marketing on organization performance with particular emphasis on Nigerian Banking Industry. The objective of the study was to examine the impact of electronic marketing on Bank performance. Primary data were obtained through the use of structured questionnaire administered to staffs of Gtbank Plc branches in Kwara State. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data with the aid of STATA 11.0 statistical computer software package. The result indicates that e-marketing adoption provides the bank with global outreach, increased sales volume, improved operational efficiency, competitive advantage and above all organization performance. The study concludes that with the rate of globalization in the 21stcentury, e-marketing adoption is germane in improving banks performance. This study recommends that other Nigeria bank and organization should adopt electronic marketing to improve their overall performance.

In recent years, this phenomenon has attracted renewed interest from academics, practitioners, and the African continent - which have become aware of its central importance in competitive strategy. An understanding of clusters adds an important dimension to the more commonly debated role of personal contact networks in the success of Agricultural. The study adopts a Meta analysis and the use of secondary data. It was concluded that Agriculture in the 21st century requires an urgent turn around. It was recommended that the government should formulate policies, provide legal framework and create enabling environment to support cluster development.
- ItemIMPACT OF E-PAYMENTSYSTEM ON BUYING BEHAVIOUR: EVIDENCE FROM RETAIL OUTLETS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, NIGERIA(nternational Journal of Research in Arts and Social Sciences/UNN Nnsuka, 2017-04-04) P. O. Adebayo & G. E. Osanyinlusi & A. O. AdekeyeThere is a conflicting view about the recent introduction of electronic payment platforms amongst retail outlets in Nigeria. This has degenerated to various arguments and controversies among stakeholders. This study attempts to clarify this by investigating the impact of e-payment onbuying behaviour.The study adopts a survey research design. Data were collected through self-administration of questionnaire to customers of selected retail outlets in Ilorin metropolis.A total of 89 copies were correctly filled and analyzed using simple percentage and multiple regression analyses. The result of the findings revealed adjusted R2 was 0.723 for hypothesis I and 0.807 for hypothesis II.This implies that about 73% of the variation in customers buying behaviour is explained by variables in the model - reliability, responsiveness and assurance. While about 81% of the variation in customers payment experience is explained by the variables - security, risk and cost of payment.The study concludes that e-payment system has significant effects on buying behaviour of retail outlets customers as it enables wider coverage of business transactions and increased customer satisfaction. The study recommends that retail outlet operators need to develop better approaches to respond to new order of business transaction with certain degree of creativity and innovativeness.
- ItemImpact of Electricity Service Quality on the Performance of Manufacturing SMEs in Nigeria(2017-06) Abdulrahman Muhammed, Issa Abdulraheem, Ismaila YusufPurpose: The objective of this paper is to determine the impact of electricity service quality on both financial and non-financial performance of manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs in Nigeria. Design/Methodology/Approach: Survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 201 Managers, Chief executive officers and owner managers of SMEs that are members of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria MAN. Simple regression analysis was done with the use of SPSS version 22.0. Findings: The results indicate that quality of electricity tends to account for more than 50% of the variances in the financial and non-financial performance of manufacturing SMEs in Nigeria. Implications/Originality/Value: This paper contributes to the existing literature on the empirical investigation into the use of service quality as a measure of electricity service and also emphasizes the importance of electricity to the performance of manufacturing SMEs in the developing countries. It recommends that future research may consider collecting longitudinal data to eliminate bias related to time

- ItemTHE POWER SECTOR AND ITS IMPACTS ON INDUSTRIALIZATION OF BUSINESSES IN NIGERIA(Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, 2017-12-25) Abu Zekeri; Idowu, H. A. O,; Akinbola, Olufemi AmosThe study investigates the link between power supply and business industrial development by examining the influence of government policies on power supply and industrial development in Nigeria. The Johansen Co-Integration technique was adopted to determine the long run relationship among some macroeconomic variables that includes the industrial component of Real Gross Domestic Product, explicitly chosen using explanatory variables. The independent variables includes electricity consumption, electricity production (Kwh), growth rate of labour force, real gross fixed capital formation and telephone lines per hundred population and their impact on industrial component of real GDP. Annual time series data on these variables from 1981 to 2010 were collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin, the World Bank and United Nations Statistics. Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) and Phillip-Perron (PP) tests are employed to test the order of integration of the variables. The study also performed a Vector Error Correction Model-VECM to correct possible disequilibrium caused in the short-run relationships. The study concluded that electricity condition which is a result of existing government policies exerts a negative impact on industrial output in the long run affects the business viability.
- ItemModerating Influence of Strategic Human Resources Management Practices on Small-Medium Firm Performance(Sumy University Journal of Business Ethics and Leadership,, 2018) Akpoviroro, K. S., Olalekan, A., & Salau. A. A,The paper examines the link between Strategic Human Resources Management (SHRM) and Small-Medium Firm (SMF) Performance. The objectives of the study are to explore the link between Strategic SHRM practices and Small-Medium Firm Performance and also to examine whether factors like size, maturity, planning level, and availability of human resource department make any difference in practicing SHRM to the selected firms in the food industry in Nigeria. Survey research design, which gives room for the use of a questionnaire, was employed. Regression, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were used to test the hypothesis. The findings show that R2 value of 0.511 reveals that Strategic Human Resources Management independently accounts for 51.1% of the variation of Small-Medium Firm Performance, which reveal that there is a significant relationship between Strategic Human Resources Management and Small-Medium Firm Performance. R2 value of 0.658 reveals that Size, maturity, planning level and availability of HR department (HRD) accounts for 65.8% of the variation in SHRM practices, which reveal that Size, maturity, planning level and availability of HR department significantly affect SHRM practices of the firms. Thus, the study recommends SMF to find ways to manage human resources more efficiently and effectively in order to remain competitive in the globalized market.
- ItemEFFECT OF CULTURAL ORIENTATION ON ENTREPRENEURIAL CLUSTER INITIATIVES IN KWARA STATE NIGERIA(International Journal of Advance Research and Innovative Ideas in Education, 2018) Abdulazeez Alhaji SalauThis research x-rays entrepreneurial cluster and Cultural Orientation in Kwara State. This study therefore surveyed the extent to which entrepreneurial cluster can be influenced by cultural orientation. A total of 153 copies of questionnaire were administered among rice cluster along the Patigi and Edu value chain in Kwara. Analysis of the data through the use of descriptive tables and simple regression analysis of the SPSS package, shows that a significant percentage of cultural orientation is required for a cluster to be entrepreneurial .The study therefore concluded that the cultural orientation must be put into consideration in entrepreneurial cluster initiatives.

The objectives of the study are to examine the effect of Employee Benefit on Job Performance and also to investigate the effect of Work Bonuses on Em ployees Motivation. 124 copies of questionnaire were administered to Cadbury Plc employees in Lagos State, Nigeria to get primary data that treated and tested appropriate research questions and hypotheses accordingly. For the purpose of this study, correlation and descriptive research was employed. The Yamane formula was adopted to determine the sample size. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences and Cronbach’s alpha was employed. The study found out that employee bonus significantly affects employee motivation in business and employee benefit significantly affects job satisfaction in business. The study recommends that organizations need to have a reward system(s) as a standard which is considered fair and equitable. Not having a reward system in an organization will lead to resistance from the employees and also Incentive management and prac tices such as pay incentives and fringe benefits should be based on realistic and standard methods in accordance with industrial benchmarks, indices and procedures and should likewise conform to ethical valuations and practices

AbdulkareemIn a dynamic environment, numbers of organizations have failed in effectively managing the environment leading to deficiency in employees’ commitment and unpleasant performance in the sales of the organizations’ products. It is on this instance that this study aimed at examining the effects of organizational climate on the performance of Tuyil Pharmaceutical Company. Survey method was employed to describe how the independent construct affects the dependent. The study also has a population of 342 out of which a sample of 168 was selected from the employees of TPC using the Bartlett¸ Kotrlik and Higgins (2001) with .05 margin of error with p=.50 and t=2.58. Additionally, a close ended questionnaire with 5 Likert Scale point was employed in enquiring from the targeted respondents. The result of this study revealed that work environment and remuneration significantly affects the sales performance and employees’ commitment of the organization with Beta .369 and .000 significance level. Hence, this study concluded that organizational climate through work environment and remuneration of employees significantly affects the performance of TPC, Ilorin using sales performance and employees’ commitment as a measure. Lastly, the study recommended that efforts should be concentrated on improving the environment in which employees operate and the remuneration package should be reviewed upward so as to influence the commitment of staff and in turn affects the sale performance as projected.

Additionally, the economic instability, resource limitations and environmental uncertainties call for entrepreneurial initiatives as the option for agribusinesses to attain synergy. More so, the innovative prowess in the agricultural sector in Nigeria raises concerns about low attempt at salvaging agricultural sector from its present status. Hence, the study examined the relationship between entrepreneurship and innovative capacity among agribusiness clusters in Kogi, Kwara and Niger States of Nigeria. The study samples were selected using multistage sampling techniques and 342 copies of questionnaire were administered. The data was analyzed using Smart PLS-Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique. The results revealed that entrepreneurial initiatives have significant relationship with innovative capacity among agribusinesses. From the study, it was established that networking initiative (T statistics =5. 628), technological adoption (T statistics = 4.478), and entrepreneurial orientation (T statistics =5.912) were essential elements in ensuring innovative capacity. The study thus concluded that entrepreneurial initiatives have strong positive relationship with innovative capacity. The study recommended that technological advancement through research and development and conscious collaboration with relevant institutions should be encouraged.
- ItemImpact of Business Ethics on Performance of Selected Microfinance Banks in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria(KIU Journal of Social Sciences, 2018) SULU BABAITA ISIAKA; FATAI BELLO; ISMAILA BOLARINWA KADIRIThe rise in the spate of failure of banks has become alarming despite several legal and regulatory framework put in place to prevent such. The Nigerian government upgraded the activities of the then Community Banks to Microfinance Banks to checkmate some of the observed lapses. This study examines the relationship between the business ethics of the top executives of microfinance banks in Nigeria and their financial and non financial performance. Using cluster sampling techniques, one hundred and twenty-nine (129) executives from six microfinance banks in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria, were selected. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaire and analysed through descriptive, comparative, regression analysis and Correlation methods of analysis. The findings revealed that there exist a positive relationship between business ethics and the business performance of the microfinance banks. In specific terms, findings showed that the ethical index had beta-co-efficient of 0.814 while community index and diversity index had 0.55 and 0.180. all the statistics were significant at 95% confidence level. While the environmental index shows an adverse relationship to both financial and non-financial performance, the trio of ethical index, community index and diversity index had significant positive impact on the financial and non-financial performance of the microfinance banks. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the microfinance banks should ensure that they increase their presence in their host communities, reduce environmental footprint, formulate and adhere to stakeholders oriented code of business conduct in order to improve their public image, increase market share and ultimately their profitability.
- ItemBusiness Ethics and Employees Satisfaction in Selected Micro and Small Enterprises in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria(KIU Journal of Social Sciences, 2018) FATAI BELLO; ISMAILA BOLARINWA KADIRI,; SULU BABAITA ISIAKAMicro and small Enterprises (MSE) in Nigeria continue to fail despite huge yearly sectorial allocations, policies and intervention funds that are geared towards making them the driving force of the economy. This study examined ethical practices among MSEs’ owner/managers as well as how they apply same in their managerial activities. It also examined the relationship between ethics and the employee satisfaction. The study used cluster sampling to select eighty-nine (89) business owners and one hundred and seventy-eight (178) employees of the selected businesses. The business cut across ten distinct MSEs sub-categories operating within Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria.. Data were collected through self administered questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive, comparative, correlation and student t-test of significance. The result obtained further showed that the owner/managers do not apply ethical practices and behaviour in their managerial style despite having substantial understanding of what constitute ethics and ethical practices. The results obtained shows that the employees perceive that their owner-managers lack ethical leadership with the mean of 2.753 falling below the 3.0 cut off point. This was shown to have negative impact on the job satisfaction of their employees and probably responsible for the continued under-performance and failure of MSEs in Nigeria. Based on these findings, it was recommended that MSE’s owner managers should introduce ethical values to their employee through role modeling and consistent practice of the same. Effort should be made to reward those who espoused high moral culture and deter those who flout the moral code.

OluwasanmiSince the discovery of oil and gas in Nigeria, the government over the years has endeavored to improve indigenous participation in the oil and gas industry through various instruments such as Indigenous Participation policies, Local Content policy, and the Marginal Field Development program. However, despite these interventions, it is observed that the industry is largely dominated by multinationals due to their expertise in technology. In a globalized business environment, technology transfer is a vehicle for bridging knowledge gaps and innovation deficiencies, especially in an industry with a rich value chain as with the oil and gas industry. This paper examines historical perspectives of technology transfer viz-a-viz the entrepreneurial development opportunities and challenges in the value chain of the Nigerian oil and gas industry (upstream, midstream and downstream). By engaging a qualitative approach using content analysis, the study serves as a pivot upon which the extent of technology transfer could be assessed, and the connection between technology transfer and entrepreneurial development in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, while recommending a tri-dimensional framework for entrepreneurial pursuit in the value chain of the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
- ItemLeadership Style and Employees’ Productivity: Evidenced from Nigerian Banking Sector(Kampala International University, Jounal of Humanities, 2019) Salami O. A., Salau A. A., Okpara K. K. & Abdulraheem I.The study focused on leadership style and employees‟ productivity evidenced from banking sector in Nigeria. The banking sector had been globally acknowledged as a pivot to the economic growth of any country. The study used questionnaires to elicit information from 80 staff of different banks in Ilorin metropolis through a simple random sampling technique. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. 94.12% acknowledged participatory as the most used leadership style in banking sector. Two hypotheses were tested. The result of hypothesis one shows that there is significant positive correlation between leadership styles (participatory and charismatic) and employees‟ productivity variables. That is r = 0.638 for effectiveness variable in participatory leadership style and r = 0.369 and 0.596 for efficiency and commitment in charismatic leadership style. The result of hypothesis two shows r2 = 0.825, which implies that about 82.5% of the variation in leadership style is explained by the variables in the model. The study thus recommends that participatory and charismatic leadership styles should be encouraged fully in the banking industry, so as to boost employees‟ commitment

- ItemAN ASSESSMENT OF PERCEPTIONS ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SELF-RELIANCE AMONG COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA(2019) Abdulazeez Alhaji SalauThis study examined cooperative society’s perception on their entrepreneurship and self reliance activities, using kwara state, Nigeria as a case study. The study was hinged on two construct- the cooperative entrepreneurship and self-reliance. For the study, twelve (12) cooperative societies were selected. The finding revealed amongst other things that self-reliance is sequel to cooperative entrepreneurship as it allows members to govern their own lives and economies. Cooperative are community rooted and democratic which allows them to attain self-reliance through their futuristic plans and internally generated funds. The study concluded that cooperative entrepreneurship is premised on the principle of self-reliance and self-sustenance as members were able to govern themselves through cooperatives. It is recommended that viable cooperative entrepreneurship activities should be disintegrated from external influences of government and other agencies. Cooperative legislations should be tailored towards making cooperatives entrepreneurially friendly.
