- ItemAfrican journal of stability and development(2019-11) Aminu Nassir Brimah; Nurudeen Bello AhmedThis study examined the effects of entrepreneurial characteristics on the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Kwara State Nigeria. Using a multistage sampling procedures, a total of one hundred and fifty entrepreneurs were selected and participated in the survey. A structured questionnaire was adopted for data collection on entrepreneur characters affecting performance of SMEs. The data were sought and analysed using SMART PLS. The Cronbach's alpha of 0.892 obtained from the data was used for the analysis. Based on the findings derived from PLS SEM creativity, proactiveness, self-confidence, risk taking have significant positive effects on profitability of SMEs.
- ItemEffect of Corporate Governance on the Performance of Listed Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria(2024) Aminu Nassir Brimah; Nurudeen Bello Ahmed; Ghalib Hammed OlayiwolaThe study examined the impact of corporate governance on the financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study looked at how corporate governance prevailing in commercial banks in Nigeria could signal the effectiveness of governance on financial performance. The study employed a longitudinal data design. It combines the features of cross-sectional and time-series designs in a research study. Judgmental sampling technique was used to collect a convenient sample to effectively represent the population while eliminating potential biases especially in surveys. The FUGAZ Banks, representing five commercial banks, were selected for this study. These include First Bank, Access Bank, Zenith Bank, UBA, and GTCO. Secondary data was utilized in this study and information for 2013 through 2022 were obtained from annual reports, accounts, and certain relevant NSE fact books from the Nigerian sampled companies. The study used panel regression to investigate how financial performance for the period was affected by corporate governance structure. Dynamic Panel data regression was used. The analysis indicates corporate governance i.e. board size and audit committee have significant impact on the financial performance of money deposit banks in Nigeria. The study recommends that companies should carefully consider the size and composition of their boards, aiming for a balance between representation and efficiency. Audit committees should consist of independent directors with relevant expertise to effectively oversee financial matters.
- ItemEntrepreneurial Alertness and Opportunity Recognition among Bakers in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria(2024-07) Abdulgafar Adekola Akinrinade; Aminu Nassir Brimah; Bello Ahmed NurudeenThe art of opportunity recognition has long been viewed as a black box that needed further attentions. Bakery owners join their mastery with administrative capacities to recognize and create an opportunity. This study examines the influence of entrepreneurial alertness as a personality trait on opportunity recognition. The study adopted a cross sectional survey using responses from 229 bakers selected with systematic random sampling approach from a sample of association of master baker of Nigeria, Kwara state branch. frame. Questionnaire was adopted as the instrument for data collection which was analysed using multiple standard regression. The regression coefficients revealed adjusted R2of 0.122 for opportunity recognition. Therefore the study concludes that entrepreneurial alertness plays a significant role in recognition of opportunities and is considered as a target-oriented process that serves as means to new value creation and innovation. The study also recommends that the bakers should engage in activities that improved their environmental scanning abilities to enhance their alertness and also attend training program that can enhance and improve the individual cognitive thinking and mental simulation.
