- ItemTHE CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS OF THE ADOPTION OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY IN HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES IN NIGERIA(Journal of Institutional Catering, Tourism and Hospitality Management, 2022) Akerele, Edward; Babalola Wasiu A.; Awotimahin Opeyemi; Osholonge MukahdasNigeria is largely dependent on fossil fuel despite its enormous sources of renewable energy. This study examines challenges facing Nigerian Hospitality industry as a result of over dependence on fossil fuel as energy source as well as the implications for the sustainable growth of the hospitality sector in Nigeria. The main objective of the study is to establish the drivers and barriers of corporate “greening in the Nigerian Hospitality and Tourism industry. The study identifies biogas, geothermal energy, advance technology in energy recovery and solar technology as alternative to fossil fuel. Lack of political will, finance, non-availability of a comprehensive environmental sustainability program, and absence of strong environmental management values were identified as factors inhibiting the adoption of renewable energy as alternative to fossil fuel in Nigerian Hospitality industry. The study recommends the use of renewable energy to mitigate environmental degradation so as to promote sustainable development of hospitality in Nigeria and that government should take a more responsive approach to facilitating the adoption of renewable energy plans for the industry.

EThe negative impact of bad government policies and incessant increase of inflation on business including the hotel business, calls for urgent attention of researchers. This study hereby examines the effect of government policies and inflation rates on the profit generation of some selected Hotels in Ikorodu East Metropolis. The researcher employed both expo – facto research design and exploratory research design. The population of this study is senior staff of Two (2) hotels in Ikorodu East Metropolis of Lagos state. Secondary data was used in this study using documentation method of data gathering. A designed structured questionnaire was one of the instruments of data collection in this regard. Both Inferential and descriptive methods of analysis was employed for data analysis for this research study. Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression model was employed to test hypotheses one to three respectively. This study revealed that bad government policies and inflation rate has significant negative effect on the profit of hotels. Arisen from the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made: Government should ensure that they avoid issuing bad policies because bad government policies have significant negative effect on business operations of hotels; Government should put in place adequate measures that can help mitigate against inflation because increase in inflation rates have significant negative effect on business operations of hotels; and Management of hotel business should ensure that they rise to the occasion of continuous price increment by looking better and cheaper alternative of meeting their business operations.
- ItemA CONCEPTUAL REVIEW OF URBAN SECURITY ISSUES AFFECTING HOSPITALITY AND EVENTS BUSINESSES(Journal of Institutional Catering, Tourism and Hospitality Management, 2022) Akerele, Edward and Oloukoi, GraceStudies have shown that security and safety issues are very critical to events and hospitality businesses. This paper provides a conceptual review of the nexus between safe, secured urban environment and the prosperity of tourism and hospitality industry with a focus on analyzing what the body of knowledge and theories uphold. A thematic review approach is used to identify the trends and patterns of arguments on criminality incentives, safety of guests and host communities and perceived elements of personal safety and organizational safety. It is evident that events and hospitality business provides potentials incentives and disincentives for criminality across urban space.

S.; Dawodu, A. O.The advent of advancement in technology has taken the global service industry to another level. The world is in the age of digital transformation, and so are consumer needs and behaviors. For any industry to remain relevant, it must key into the new wave. Considering the hospitality industry, not much has been done to really assess and document the contribution of technology to customers’ decision-making when choosing a hotel. This study therefore investigated the impact of technological innovation on the hospitality industry, using key objectives such as determining the level of technological orientation amongst hoteliers; ascertaining the degree of adaptability of the hotel employee to the new innovations; and assessing the guest experience of technological innovations in the hospitality industry. A descriptive research design was adopted for this work via a quantitative research strategy. Eko Hotel and Suites was used as a case study; with the research population being the customer and staff of the hotel. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the findings that ensued from the survey conducted for this work. This work concludes that the benefits of technological innovations outweigh the perceived shortfalls and customers prefer to patronize technologically innovative hospitality outlets like Eko Hotel and Suites.

It emphasizes the emergence of creative tourism as a catalyst for entrepreneurial ventures, where local businesses play a pivotal role in providing authentic experiences to tourists. Drawing from theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence, the research traces the stages of tourism development and identifies the challenges and opportunities faced by small businesses in rural areas. Lifestyle entrepreneurship emerges as a significant driver, motivated by a desire to contribute to local revitalization and sustainable development. By analyzing motivations, management practices, and economic impacts, the study underscores the importance of fostering sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems in rural tourism destinations. Ultimately, it advocates for policy interventions and strategic initiatives to support the growth of rural tourism businesses and enhance their contribution to economic and social well-being in rural communities.
