- ItemCollection Development Policy, Acquisition Management and Postgraduate Use of E Resources in a Nigerian University Library(Bayero Journal of Library and Information Science, 2026-04-12) Abdulsalam A. Salman; A. O. Issa; Ismaila Aliyu YahayaThe study surveyed collection development policies, acquisition management and postgraduate use of e-resources in university library. A descriptive survey design was adopted and a sample of 237 postgraduate students were selected by using the total enumeration sampling technique. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data from 237 respondents, of which 224 copies were returned and filled. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze the data collected for the research questions while PPMC was used to test the two null hypotheses of the study. The instrument was validated using face validity by giving two copies of the questionnaire to the research experts with a reliability co-efficient of r=0.721 by using Cronbach alpha. The result showed that there is a significant relationship between acquisition management practices and utilization of e-resources. This is shown in the result where the correlation coefficient (r) is = 0.81 while the degree of freedom is 222 and the P-value is 0.000 which is less than the significance level of 0.05. The results of the first hypothesis showed a significant relationship between collection development policies and the utilization of electronic resources by postgraduate students. Furthermore, the results of the second hypothesis showed a significant relationship between acquisition management practices and the utilization of electronic resources among postgraduate students. The study found out that there is difficulty in accessing the library’s electronic resources due to poor internet connectivity and insufficient electronic databases to cover all relevant research areas in their field are the major challenge associated with the utilization of electronic resources at the University of Ilorin. The study recommends that libraries should regularly review and update their collection development policies to align with evolving research trends and also provide infrastructure facilities like electricity and internet which will no doubt provide remedy to the problem in question.

- ItemFactors and Considerations Influencing Faculty Members’ Decision to Publish with Journals: A Nigerian University Experience(2021) Ismail Adeyemi; Kabir Sulaiman; Fatima TemimIt has been observed that faculty members of Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete, Nigeria, publish in journals based on some factors and considerations. These factors and considerations guide their choice of publishing in journals. The aim of this study was to show the factors and considerations influencing KWASU faculty members’ decision to publish with journals. The study adopted a descriptive survey method, with a web-survey questionnaire as data collection instrument. The population for the study was 482, of whom 192 respondents responded positively, representing 39.8% of the total population. A quantitative analysis was done of data collected, using the automatically-generated analysis from Google Forms. The hypothesis was tested using Microsoft Excel. It was found that some of the factors that influence the choice of KWASU faculty members to publish with journals, include: peer review; publication cost; open access; impact factor; and frequency of publication. It was found that more than half of the faculty members give consideration to editorial board lists of journals before sending out their manuscripts to journals. It was also found that there is a statistically significant relationship between factors and considerations for the choice of publishing in a journal. Challenges encountered by faculty members in publishing with journals include poor communication between author and editor, faculty members’ poor awareness of journals, difficulty in getting collaborators, and pressure to get an academic promotion.
- ItemUsage of Electronic Media for Alternate Crisis Mitigation and Human Right Activism: A Study of Kokoro Alate Radio Programme(KWASU Journal of Information, and Communication Technology KJICT, 2025) Subair Bashirat DamilolaThe Nigerian legal system is currently burdened with a high volume of civil cases and complaints, leading to the rise of alternative dispute resolution methods. The electronic media has significantly contributed to the popularity of these alternative informal court proceedings, playing a key role in addressing issues of justice in society. The study employed a quantitative survey approach. Kokoro Alate’s page on Facebook was explored, and listeners of the programme were generated through the platform, and they form the study population. From a listener population of 264,000, a purposive sampling method was employed to select the participants for the study, and a total of 188 respondents were generated. Data were collected through online questionnaires and analysed, using descriptive and inferential statistics, including frequencies and percentages, mean and standard deviation and correlation analysis. The findings reveal that electronic media significantly enhances the reach of Kokoro Alate’s proceedings, contributing to the effective management and documentation of disputes and human rights cases. Additionally, the programme has encouraged both disputants and complainants to feature on the platform. The programme demonstrates effectiveness in preventing an escalation of crises and helps facilitate settlement between disputants. The study recommended raising awareness about alternative dispute resolution options through both the legal system and media channels.
