- ItemA Critical Analysis of the Assessment of Hotel’s Social Responsibility to its Host Communities(Manuscript Scientific Service: Journal of Economics and Finance Research, 2025-03-06) Folorunso, Olusola Samson; Tinuoye, Olaleye I.; Osadare, Olukemi O.; Lawal, Olufunmilayo O.; Adebayo, Hauwa Mosunmola; Oyedun, Mayokun AdebayoHotels are under increased scrutiny to show how they are contributing to the betterment of their surrounding communities in the areas of environmental sustainability, community participation, and ethical business practices. The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of "social responsibility" in the hospitality business, and to analyze the techniques used to evaluate hotels' effects on their surrounding neighborhoods. Hotels' commitment to social responsibility may be gauged in part by looking at how they treat the local community, how they treat their employees, and what kind of environmental impact they have. Hotels may reduce their negative effects on the environment and improve the quality of life in their communities by using sustainable operating methods. In addition, hotels may contribute to the area's economic and social growth by forging partnerships with local businesses, launching charitable campaigns, and hosting cultural exchange programs. The hotel industry's rapid rise has had far-reaching consequences for the local ecosystem and population. Due to the nature of the hospitality industry as a for-profit business, hotels are held to specific community service duties. The results of this research show that running a hotel may have both beneficial and negative effects on the local population and its natural surroundings. Attracting visitors, creating jobs, supporting infrastructure development, and providing economic possibilities for the host community are all ways in which hotels may play an important part in the development of their host towns.

- ItemCONSIDEERING ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN TOURISM FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA(Journal of Business Education, Kwara State University, 2014) Olatunji, A. G.; Falabi, M. O.Tourism is an age long activity in human social living, the need to engage in tourist activities is born out of the nature of human being, to explore the world beyond their immediate environment. More recent than ever, tourism activities have increased globally due to the emergence ofglobalization and the ever-increasing zeal of the people to engage in leisure activities. The increase in tourism activities globally has made many governments all over the world to put vested interest in the development of the sector due to their discovery that development of tourism could be used as an effective tool to revitalize their economies. Through entrepreneurial investment in tourism, some countries with enormous tourism potentials has been able to develop their tourism sector successfully but some many others especially in the developing countries like Nigeria has not been doing well in this regard. Despite the availability of enormous tourism products in Nigeria, the country is yet to develop most of its tourism products to meet modern international standard. This article argued that lack of appropriate entrepreneurial mindset suitable enough to promote tourism entrepreneurship of both the government and the people could be held responsible for such a situation. In this regard, the paper recommends that promoting entrepreneurial investment in tourism (tourism entrepreneurship) could be used as veritable tool to rejuvenate the moribund economic situation of the country and could also be used to change the status of the country from a developing to a sustainable developed nation.

- ItemDEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRIES IN NIGERIA: A PANACEA FOR POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT REDUCTION(JOURNALS HUMANITIES AND EMPERICAL SCIENCES VOL.5, 2016-04-13) BASHIRU ADEKUNLE AFEEZReview of development of tourism and hospitality industries in Nigeria on impact of poverty and unemployment reduction has been made. The results indicated that tourism sector of Nigeria has been an important sector for many decades in generating foreign exchange and employment in the country. It is a growing sector with huge potentials for investment and development in tourism sector is not growing and information on the demand and supply ideas of tourism is poor. Tourism cannot provide employment and income to all the people in a destination and but it can be a panacea for economic development. But where there are potentials to develop this sector, there is scope to provide opportunities to a larger number of people, given its labour intensive nature. The result clearly indicates local areas adjacent to tourism destinations appear to have a comparative advantage in employment and poverty reduction and should gradually move to specialize in their activities. Although not examined by the present study, it can be said that tourism can also provide income and employment opportunities in other sectors e.g., public transport, wildlife safari, elephantrides, tour guides, restaurants, furniture, and various types of shops etc. In many places local people are able to perform cultural shows, and besides earning incomes some are able to promote their local culture as well. It is argued that tourism employs a relatively high proportion of women and thus contributes to gender equality. Tourism can help the poor improve their livelihoods, but this will require concerted efforts – strategies that help establish strong linkages with the tourism sector. Scope also exists to provide more training to local people so that they are able to get better paid jobs. Overall, the study results clearly indicate that tourism contributes to the local economy providing direct employment and indirectly by purchasing food and nonfood items from local producers.

- ItemGENDER EQUALITY AND DEVELOPMENT: CHALLENGES TO WOMEN’S INVOLVEMENT IN TOURISM PARTICIPATION FOR NIGERIA’S DEVELOPMENT(2021-05-30) Dr Olowookere-Ayodele, Olusayo Oluwakemi.; Bashiru, Adekunle Afeez; Okunlola, Kafilat AsakeABSTRACT The term 'gender' refers to the social construction of female and male identity. It can be defined as 'more than biological differences between men and women. It includes how those differences, whether real or perceived, have been valued, used, and relied upon to classify women and men and to assign roles and expectations to them. The significance of this is that the lives and experiences of women and men, including their experience of the legal system, occur within complex sets of differing social and cultural expectations. This paper examines the differences in women's and men's lives, including those which lead to social and economic inequity for women, is concerned with the underlying causes of these inequities, and aims to achieve positive change for women's participation through tourism. Gender corporation should take place throughout the entire tourism process, from research to problem definition, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. By examining basic assumptions each step of the way, the interrelationships between social context and economic factors can be understood and initiatives that respond to those needs can be designed. Tourism initiatives must undertake gender analysis at the planning stage and integrate the findings and recommendations at each step of the way, from planning through to evaluation. With this information measures of equity can be created to address the disparities and promote equality at all levels of development.
