- ItemAdoption of Internet of things for effective service delivery by selected university libraries in Kwara State(Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria, 2022) Eiriemiokhale, K. A.; James, B. O.This study investigated the adoption of Internet of Things as predicators of service delivery by selected university libraries in Kwara State. The objectives of the study were to identify the IoTs technologies that were available in selected university libraries in Kwara State; find out if university librarians were aware of the IoTs technologies; identify the benefits of the IoTs technologies in university libraries; and identify the challenges of the IoTs technologies in university libraries. The study employed a descriptive survey research design and utilised a census sampling technique to collect data from a population of 37 professional librarians working in three university libraries in Kwara State. A self-designed questionnaire was used for data collection, while data were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages. Findings of the study revealed the available IoTs technologies to include Wireless Sensor Network, Quick Response code, and RFID. University librarians in Kwara State were aware of the available IoTs. The benefits of IoTs include the prevention of library collection misuse and misplacement; saving patron’s time, and establishing global links for researchers to access previously unknown library collections; streamlining back-office processes such as inventory control; and improving librarians’ work. The major challenges affecting the adoption of IOT technologies were the high cost and the lack of required infrastructure. The study recommended that university librarians in Kwara State should create awareness of existing IoTs technologies. University librarians and the university management should take deliberate steps to make these technologies available in libraries.
- ItemAffectivity and Social Adjustment as Predictors of Librarians’ User Relation: Evidence from Nigerian Librarians’ SelfRating(Universitas Airlangga Surabaya, Indonesia, 2021) Adeyemi, Ismail Olatunji; Temim, Fatima Modupe; Uzamot, Waliyah OmotayoBackground of the study: It has been observed that there is knowledge gap on how librarians’ affectivity and social adjustment predict user relation. Moreover, it has been shown overtime that human’s behavioural qualities may have a possible effect on interaction with people. All of these concerns necessitate this study. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between affectivity, social adjustment and Nigerian librarians’ user relation. Method: The authors adopt correlational research design and web-based questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Purposive sampling technique was adopted for the study. The total response rate was 178. Findings: It was found in the study that negative affectivity such as threat and hostility have poor effect on user relation. Contrastingly, it was revealed that positive affectivity such as subjective well-being and happiness ensure optimal library user relation. It was revealed that Nigerian librarians see opportunities in user relation, which can be used to improve the library image and effective service inside. Conclusion: It was established that affectivity has statistically significant relationship with user relation. Also, it was shown that social adjustment has statistical significant relationship with user relation.
- ItemAn Empirical Study on the Traits of Information Literacy Level among Senior Secondary Students in Ilorin, Nigeria(The University Libraries of the University of Nebraska--Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, 2017) Adeyemi, Ismail OlatunjiThis study examined the information literacy level among secondary school students in Ilorin. This study adopted the disproportionate stratified random sampling techniques. The total population for this study 1958 students. The data for the study was collected through structured questionnaires which were distributed randomly to 210 students. However, only 192 copies of the questionnaire were properly filled and returned for analysis and thus form the basis as sample for this study (N=192). The findings of the study revealed that more than half of the respondents can identify lack of knowledge in a subject area. The study also revealed that majority of the respondents can articulate current knowledge on a topic. Furthermore, it also revealed that a large number of the respondents cannot identify specialist search tools. Also, from the study, it was revealed that noteworthy numbers of the respondents do not use Boolean operators in their search for information. Conclusively, the study shows that information literacy skills are essential for every human being because information is vital to everyone and every walk of life. It was recommended that policy makers in education sector should try and introduce information literacy skills as a subject in the secondary school curriculum so as to ensure that the students have the necessary information literacy skills rather than developing these skills through self-education. It was also recommended that teachers that have skills in information literacy skills should be employed as the facilitators in this subject.
- ItemApplication of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Information Dissemination in Special Libraries in Nigeria(2019) Mohammed Lawal Akanbi; Dorcas Odunayo Ogunleye; Kabir Alabi SulaimanBackground of the study: This study examined the Application of ICT in Dissemination of Information in Selected Special Libraries in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria. Three Special libraries from the metropolis of the state comprised the sample population of the study; Central Bank of Nigeria Library, Michael Imoudu Institute of Labor Studies Library and Ghalib Chamber Library. Purpose: The study employed a survey research design using the Enumeration sampling technique. A questionnaire was used to obtain data from the respondents. The population of the study consisted of twenty-one (21) respondents which comprised of library professionals and library assistants. The usage of Email to render CAS is not a norm in these special libraries. Method: Data collected from the field were analyzed using descriptive method of analysis. Findings: Apart from CAS, it was found that selective dissemination of information (SDI) is not done with the aid of technological tools in these Libraries and these libraries rarely make use of OPAC to provide easy access to their resources, efficiency and effectiveness of ICT in the dissemination of information were not realized because of the low usage of ICT to drive operations in the library. The study recommended that there should be a standard alternative source of power for proper Usage of ICT facilities and management of special libraries should help their users in subscribed for a database that would assist them in having access to robust information. Conclusion: The study concluded that ICT facilities are put in place in the selected special libraries are not adequate and are as well not fully utilized. It was gathered that the usage of ICT facilities to render services like current awareness services (CAS) is not up to expectation.

The study’s objectives were toidentify the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that are available in Nigerian University Libraries; identify the areas of use of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in Nigerian University Libraries; examine the functions of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in Nigerian University Libraries; and identify the benefits of the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in Nigerian University Libraries. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, and the population comprises 37 professional librarians in three university libraries in Kwara State. A self-designed questionnaire was used for data collection, while data were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages. The study’s findings revealed the available IoT technologies, including Wireless Sensor Networks, Cloud Computing, Smoke or Heat sensor, and RFID. The study also revealed that the aforementioned are used in technical services, readers services, theft management, and alerting services for quality service delivery in university libraries. The study recommended that Nigerian University libraries should increase awareness of existing IoT technologies available, put appropriate measures in place for its application to various library routines and departments and employ it to transform into innovative libraries.
- ItemAPPRAISING THE ROLES OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) AS A CHANGE AGENT FOR UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA(2021) Kamal Tunde OMOPUPA; Kennedy Arebamen EİRİEMİOKHALE; Israel Segun OGUNDELEThis study investigated the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a change agent for university libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria. The study objectives include: (i) identifying types of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities used in university libraries in Kwara State; (ii) examining the roles of ICT in university libraries in Kwara State; (iii) investigating the challenges militating against the use of ICT in university libraries in Kwara State. In order to achieve the study objectives, three research questions were designed to guide the study, the two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The study comprised 50 professional librarians population in selected university libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for the analysis while the study used Chi Square in analysing the two null hypotheses. The results revealed that (i) numerous ICT tools are used in the university library in Kwara State, Nigeria; (ii) ICT has changed the roles of university libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria; and (iii) numerous challenges militates against the use of ICT in university libraries in Kwara State. Based on the findings, the study recommended that the Federal and State government including proprietors of private universities and other stakeholders should ensure adequate funding of university libraries in the light of active investment rather than a passive obligation, There is urgent need for the improvement of power supply in university libraries in order to enhance maximum use of the ICT facilities because they depend on light (electricity) to function.
- ItemAssessment of In -Text Citations and Referencing Styles Adopted in Theses Submitted to University of Ilorin Postgraduate School between 2010 and 2016(International Journal of Research in Library Science (IJRLS), 2020) TundeShamsudeen AJIBOLA; AbdulwahabOlanrewaju ISSAThis study assessed in-text citations and referencing styles adopted in theses submitted to the University of Ilorin Postgraduate School between 2010 and 2016. The objectives of the study were to: identify the number of theses submitted to the University of Ilorin Postgraduate School according to the faculties and departments; assess the departmental, faculty and postgraduate school requirements for the submission of doctoral theses; identify the predominant in-text citations and referencing styles adopted in the submitted theses; examine the accuracy in the use of in-text citations and referencing styles adopted; ascertain the consistency in the use of in-text citations and referencing styles adopted; and assess the uniformity in the use of in-text citations and referencing style formats adopted. The study adopted citation analysis design of the qualitative method. Purposive sampling was used to select 255 Ph.D. theses out of 683 doctoral theses from 12 faculties and over 50 departments offering postgraduate programmes in the institution. The document review, checklist, personal observation and interview were the data collection instruments. Six research questions were answered using qualitative content analysis. The findings revealed that Faculty of Education had the highest number of Ph.D. theses (203) submitted during the period. There were variations in the referencing methods used in the theses. However, APA was the most predominantly used citation formats, though with errors, inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the reference citations, which were found to have improved in correctness and appropriateness in both the in-text citations and reference since 2015. Also, there was lack of uniformity in the referencing styles adopted. The study concluded that there was a low quality in text citations and referencing and lack of uniformity in the presentations in the submitted theses. It therefore recommended the issuance of the University of Ilorin Manual of Styles to provide guides for writing theses and dissertations, employing all strategies for enforcing compliance.
- ItemATTITUDE AND PERCEPTIONS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS TOWARDS COMPUTER BASED TEST IN NIGERIAN(2021) Kennedy A. EIRIEMIOKHALE; Victor O. IDIEDO; Becky PAULThe adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) in education has initiated modern advantages for changes and innovation in educational assessment resulting in the adoption of Computer-Based Test (CBT). Attitude and perception towards CBT are inevitable variables affecting the acceptance of CBT examinations. This study investigated attitude and perception of Library and Information Science undergraduate students towards (CBT) examination in Nigerian Universities. The objectives of the study were to: (i) examine the attitude of Library and Information Science students towards CBT examination in Nigerian universities; (ii) determine Library and Information Science student’s perception towards the ease of use of CBT examination in Nigerian universities; (iii) determine Library and Information Science student’s perception on the usefulness of CBT examination; (iv) identify the constraints faced by Library and Information Science students during CBT examinations; and (v) ascertain the difference between male and female Library and Information Science student’s attitude and perception towards CBT examination. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Population of the study consist of Library and Information Science undergraduate students in Nigerian universities. A sample of 378 was purposively drawn from four selected universities in North-Central, Nigeria. Data was collected with the use of questionnaire and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings of the study were: (i) Library and Information Science students in Nigerian universities had positive attitude towards CBT examination, (ii) Library and Information Science students perception on the ease of use of use of CBT was positive, (iii) Library and Information Science students perceived CBT examination to be useful, (iv) there were no constraints against CBT examination, and (v) there was a significant difference between the male and female Library and Information Science students attitude and perception towards CBT examination. The study recommended the expansion of CBT centres and provision of more facilities in Nigerian universities.
- ItemAttitude and Use of Online Public Access Catalogue by Students of Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria(Libraries at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2020-04-19) Kennedy Arebamen Eiriemiokhale PhD; Sodiq Olayinka OladimejiThis paper examined the attitude and use of online public access catalogue (OPAC) by students of Kwara State University, Malete. The objectives of the study were to: (i) examine the attitude of Kwara State University students towards OPAC; and (ii) ascertain student’s frequency of use of OPAC. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 11, 855 undergraduate students in Kwara State University. Sample size of 378 was drawn from the population using a multi-staged sampling approach of proportional and simple random sampling techniques. Three hundred and seventy eight (378) copies of the questionnaire were administered on the respondents. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics including percentage and frequency counts. The findings of the study revealed that the respondents love the use of OPAC, are pleased and appreciate the results provided by Online Public Access Catalogue. The study concluded that the attitude of the students towards the Online Public Access Catalogue is positive. The study further revealed that majority of the respondents use the OPAC mostly by year and quarterly with less daily usage and when materials are needed. The study recommended that users should be oriented on the need to use the OPAC daily. More so, users should be briefed on the need to always consult the OPAC when a material is needed for easy identification and location and library management should ensure facilities and sever to consult OPAC within and outside the library available 24 hours.

O; Eiriemiokhale, K. A.This study examined the attitude of Library and Information Science Postgraduate students towards Internet usage. Survey research design was adopted, the population was Library and Information Science postgraduate students in two selected library schools. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire, two hundred and thirty nine (239) copies of the questionnaire were administered, while two hundred and seven (207) copies were sucessfully retrieved representing 86.6% response rate. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferencial statistics. Results show that LIS postgraduate students in Nigeria use the Internet for academic endeavours. The study recommended that drastic measures should be taken by LIS educators/administrators to provide functional internet facilities to LIS postgraduate students in their various schools to eliminate any barrier confronting them in order to enhance efficiency and quality of learning and research activities.

However, research reports have revealed that there is low level of awareness of electronic databases by university lecturers. Hence this study investigated availability and awareness of electronic databases for teaching and research by lecturers in public universities in South-west, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to: ( I ) identify the types of databases available to lecturers in public universities in South-west, Nigeria; and (ii) examine the extent of awareness of available databases for teaching and research by university lecturers in South-west, Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive research design of a correlational type. The population comprised 10,452 lecturers in fifteen public universities in South-west, Nigeria from which a sample size of 836 was drawn using a multi stage sampling procedure. Questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that numerous electronic databases were available in public university libraries in South-west, Nigeria and that university lecturers’ level of awareness of most of the electronic databases for teaching and research was above average (60.6%) as against below average reported in the literature. It can be concluded from the study that the university libraries in South-west, Nigeria are not creating much awareness of their electronic databases. It is therefore recommended that university libraries, especially in South west, Nigeria should intensify their promotional activities geared towards marketing their electronic databases.

- ItemAwareness and Perception of Certified Librarians of Nigeria Towards the Use of Robotic Technologies in the Libraries(Ghana Library Journal, 2023-06-03) Sambo, Atanda Saliu; Gloria, O.TThe study adopted the social survey technique and the population of the study comprised 452 certified librarians of Nigeria libraries that were certified by the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) on November, 24th, 2021. The librarians who took part in the survey were chosen using a random sampling method. One out of every three librarians being admitted on the day was given the questionnaire. The researcher used Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS version 20.0) application software with simple percentages chosen for easier analysis and interpretation. The findings of this study revealed that certified librarians are averagely aware of the existence of robotic technologies usage for library services and the anxiety of employee retrenchment is the major anxiety, despite they are aware that, the innovative apparatuses will increase global recognition and enhance library services. It shows that certified librarians are faced challenges towards the use of robotic technologies such as potential job loss, inadequate funding and epileptic among others. The study recommended that certified librarians should keep up with modern trends in information dissemination by learning fundamental skills that are technologically compatible among others.

SProblem Statement: The invention of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has greatly enhanced the potential of academic libraries' services. Purpose: This study explores the awareness and perceptions of AI among librarians in university libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria. Method: It adopted descriptive survey method. The population of this study are 37 professional librarians in University of Ilorin’s and Kwara State University’s libraries. Census enumeration sampling technique was used to select the respondents. Questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents, with the support of two research assistants. Data collected was analysed and presented in frequency, simple percentages and mean (x). Result: Findings revealed that Chatbots and Dynamed are the AI the respondents were aware of. The respondents have the perceptions that AI technologies can be adopted in university libraries, capable of replacing human librarians in future and AI is a positive development for librarians. Findings further indicated that the respondents perceived that AI is beneficial in university libraries because it provides patron-tailored recommendations to items, can reduce manual and repetitive tasks performed by librarians and facilitates the discovery of new knowledge. But the major factors affecting the adoption of AI include poor internet connectivity and lack of expertise among librarians. Conclusion: This study concluded that librarians’ awareness of AI influences their perceptions of it. It recommends among others that management of university libraries in Kwara State should train their librarians on AI.

- ItemAwareness and Usage of Reference Management Software: Perspectives of Faculty Members of University of Ilorin Nigeria(The Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, Indonesia, 2020) Adeyemi, Ismail Olatunji; Sulaiman, Kabir Alabi; Akanbi, Lawal MohammedThis study examined the awareness and usage of reference management software by faculty members of the University of Ilorin. Descriptive survey method was adopted for the study. The Web-based questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. The total population of the study is 1,496 people. From which the sample size of 306 was selected using Raosoft sample size calculator and total responses of 98 was returned, which represents the unit of analysis. Hence, the response rate for the study is 32%. The findings of the study revealed that EndNote and Mendeley are the most used reference management software by faculty members of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). Results show that faculty members were aware of EndNote and Mendeley to great extent. It was found that there is low usage of reference management software among faculty of the University of Ilorin; and that most of the faculty members have never used ProCites, Bookends, Papers and Qiqqa. It was concluded that there is a positive significant relationship between awareness and usage of reference management software by faculty members. It was recommended that faculty members should be trained on how to make use of the most used reference management software.

The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and 210 undergraduate students provided the data. The findings of the study revealed that information resources were available and accessible in Kwara State University Library. The study showed that students do not know the usefulness of some of the resources and this has hampered their desire for them. Also there is a dire need of varieties of information repackaging to enhance awareness, availability and accessibility of resources in the library. Also revealed is the unfriendliness of some library staff, unclassified nature of some of the information resources. Lack of in-depth orientation on library usage with respect to the use of catalogue and the library online services were the main problems militating against accessing information resources. Therefore, library orientation should be more than mere library tour rather it should be practical in nature where students are exposed to library usage with regard to the use of the catalogue/OPAC and online resources. Current and up-to-date information resources should be made available and accessible to all students through services provided by the library staff.

The awareness, knowledge and use of these altmetrics tools in measuring research impact are unknown among Nigerian librarians. Hence, this study examined the awareness, knowledge and use of altmetrics as measure of research impact by Nigerian librarians. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and total population sampling technique was adopted. Web-based questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Two hundred and eighty-five responses were collected from the participants. The findings of the study show that most Nigerian librarians were not aware of altmetrics as non-traditional complement to traditional citation count. Results show that Nigerian librarians did not use altmetrics for measuring their research impact. It was shown that there was inadequate knowledge of altmetrics and it was unpopular among Nigerian librarians in measuring research impact. It was found that there was no statistically positive significant (r = .482**; P < .022) relationship between awareness and use of altmetrics to measure research impact by Nigerian librarians. Results show that there was no statistically positive significant (r = .374**; P < .039) relationship between librarians’ knowledge and use of altmetrics to measure research impact. It was concluded that that most Nigerian librarians use Twitter to seek altmetrics compared to other social media networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn which have very minimal usage.
