- ItemA SURVEY OF STUDENTS AND FACILITATORS' PERCEPTIONS OF PROBLEMS IN OPEN UNIVERSITY SYSTEM, OYO AND KWARA STATES, NIGERIA(Academic Research International, 2011-07) Dr. A. Y. Abdulkareem, Dr. Afolabi, S. O., Dr. Olorisade, O. G.National Open University which was formally established in Nigeria in 1983 aimed at bridging the existing gaps in education. The study is a survey research of descriptive type which unveiled the myriads of problems facing the National Open University of Nigeria as perceived by the facilitators and the students in Kwara and Oyo States. Forty facilitators and fifty students randomly selected from Kwara and Oyo States study centres participated in the study. Questionnaire was the major instrument used while simple percentage and chi-square statistics were used to analyze the research questions and the two hypotheses generated respectively. The findings of the study revealed lack of standard classrooms, inadequate supply of electricity and inadequate funding which are the variables of resource allocation and organization, as major problems facing the Open University Programme in Nigeria. However, the study revealed that there is no significant difference between facilitators’ and students’ perception of the problems associated with resource allocation and organization of programmes. It was therefore, recommended among others that adequate funds should be made available by the government, the institution should make course materials and computer-based media available at all study centres for students’ use. Also, uninterrupted academic calendar of the university must be ensured while internet services should be provided at all study centres

- ItemTACKLING CONFLICTS AND CULTISM AS SCHOOL PROBLEMS THROUGH POSITIVE PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND POSITIVE RECREATIONAL PROGRAMME(2015) Prof. Abubakar Laro Ibrahim & Dr. Rufus Ojo AjayiThis paper focuses on positive physical activities and positive recreational problem as panacea to curtail conflicts and cultism in Nigeria institutions. The vices that stigmatized institutions of learning in Nigeria today are traceable to the uncontrolled behavior of students. School authorities and concerned government over the years have applied measures to check the excesses of students in Nigeria institutions of higher learning without noticeable success. Positive Physical Activities (PPA) and Positive Recreational Program (PRP) otherwise known as sports and games stand to provide the needed solution to these lingering problems of conflicts and Cultism in school. Sports are perceived as wholesome pursuits for students in schools as it channels their thinking and disposition toward worthwhile goals. Similarly, Sports provide students the opportunity to cultivate sportsmanship qualities, which are necessary for school discipline. This paper focused on the educational values of PPA and PRP that includes self discipline, self control, obedience, Respect and co-operation with constituted authorities among others. At the same time, sports provide students with safety values of letting off excessive energies, which ordinarily could have been mischievously channeled towards acts that are opposed to school discipline. Finally, recommendations were made on how participation in sports by students could help solve conflict and problems of cultism.

The effect of bureaucracy on the implementation of sports policies was examined. - ItemFactors millitating sports development among Nigerian Army force in sobi barrack ilorin, Kwara State(2017-09) M. T. AJADI , A. K. OLAOYE , M. ALABIDUNAbstract. This study examined the factors militating sports development among Nigerian Army force, Sobi Barrack, Ilorin, Kwara State such as facilities, equipment, sports personnel and budget. The population of this study comprised 850 officers of the 22 armored brigade in Sobi barrack, Horin. Three hundred and forty (340) constituted 40% of the respondents was sampled. Instrument used for data collection was researcher's self-structured questionnaire. The instrument was validated and tested for reliability using Pearson's Product Moment Correlation. Co-efficient of 0.76 was obtained. Data collected were analyzed using Chi-square (x2) at 0.05 level of significance. All the hypotheses were rejected. The result revealed that there is a significant influence of facilities, equipment, sports personnel and budget on sports development among Nigeria Army Force in Sobi Barrack. Ilorin. It was concluded that; facilities, equipment, sports personnel and budgeting have significant influence on sports development. It is therefore recommended among others that modern sports facilities such as field, court, swimming pool, gymnasium and so on are to be provide by the management for Nigeria Army force, Sobi Barrack, Ilorin. - ItemInfluence of Information and Communication Technology on Sports Management of Tertiary Institutions of Ilorin Metropolis(KIU Journal of Social Sciences, 2017-09-17) Olaoye Ayobami Kazeem, F. N. Ikwuka, V. F. Olubobola and S. A. ElojiAbstract This study examined the influence of information and communication technology on sports management of tertiary institutions of Ilorin Metropolis. The research design employed for the study was descriptive design of the survey type. The population of the study comprised all sports personnel and staff in sports units in tertiary institutions in Ilorin metropolis. 103 were selected for the study. The instrument used for the study was a validated researcher structured questionnaire which was tested for reliability using the test-retest method, a reliability co-efficient of 0.72 was obtained. The postulated hypotheses were tested with Chi-square (x2). Three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 significance level. All the hypotheses were rejected. The conclusion was that Computer system, Internet facilities and smart devices significantly influence sports management in tertiary institutions in Ilorin metropolis. It was recommended that ICT gadget such as smart devices should be made available for sports personnel in tertiary institutions in the State.
- ItemEFFECTS OF EXERCISE DURATION ON BODY COMPOSITION OF INACTIVE OBESE FEMALE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN, NIGERIA(Department of Human Kinetics Education, University of Ilorin,Nigeria, 2018) I. S. ITOPA, M. ALABIDUN & F. O. OKOMANYIAbstract Duration is an integral component of exercise prescription that must be considered in achieving a dose response health and fitness benefits from exercising. Timing is a major factor that determines effective participating in exercise. Therefore, the objective of the study was to find out the effect of 20 and 30 minutes ef jogging on Weight, BMI, Percent Body Fat and Waist/Hip Ratio. Experimental research design was adopted for the study. Multi stage sampling procedure was used to select 60 female participants for this study. Standardized instruments were used for data collection. One hypothesis was postulated for this study. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The hypothesis was tested at .05 level of alpha. The study found that; no significant difference between the two experimental groups based on body composition variables of the participants. This means that 20 and 30 minutes of jogging had the same effect on the body composition variables of the participants. There was also no significant difference between the experimental groups and the control group. This means that the treatment was not effective on the experimental group's body composition variables. It was concluded that 20 and 30 minutes of the same intensity of jogging tend to yield similar results on body composition variables of these participants. Therefore, there is need to engage in various aerobic exercise and female young adults in Ilorin should include healthy dietary pattern in their lifestyle as exercise alone may not give desired result within 0-6 weeks of aerobic exercise.

T. BAKINDE & M. ALABIDUNAbstract This study examined the challenges of integrating ICT for teaching and learning of physical education in secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis. The Variables of study are availability, accessibility, cost, and training of physical education teachers. Descriptive research of survey type was used for this study. Population of the study comprised all secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis: Sample was sixty-one (61) physical education teachers selected from junior secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis. Researcher structured questionnaire was used for the study. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. findings revealed that availability: accessibility, cost of ICT devices and training of physical education teachers were identified as challenges of integrating ICT for teaching and learning of physical education in the study area. This study therefore recommends that government and stakeholders should procure ICT gadgets for teaching and learning of physical education.
- ItemComparative analysis of Anthopometric and Physiological characteristics of Nigerian National Power Athlete(Faculty of Education, Kogi State University, 2020) N. O. ABUBAKAR, O. L. DOMINIC & M. ALABIDUNAbstract The purpose of this research work was to find out the significant difference between anthropometric and physiological characteristics of Nigeria national power athlete which are peculiar to combat sport and field throwers. Stratified random sampling techniques were used to select judo, taekwondo, shot pui and javelin throwers in Nigeria. Standardized instrument were used to collect the following data for analysis Physical characteristics such as age, height and weight. The anthropometric variables of body girths such as thigh, mid-thigh, hip, wrist, relaxed. contracted, waist circumference and physiological parameters such as speed, leg explosive power, resting heart rate, push up, sit up, power test and anaerobic in sixty seconds (Imin). The descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation (SD) was used to describe the data collected and inferential statistics of ANOVA was used to compite the four athletes and t-test to test the two groups that is combat and throwers at o.05 level of significant and Scheffepost hoe was used to establish differences among the four sports. It was found that there were significant differences among the body circumference except few where significant difference does not occur. It was also found that there were no significant differences among the physiological. cardio-respiratory fitness of the four sports. It was found amongst others that Shotputters are more different to judokas, Taekwondo and Javelin in height, weight and body girths respectively. Therefore, it was recommended amongst others that trainers and coaches should consider the Anthropometric, Physiological and body composition necessary for each game in terms of selection of athlete.
- ItemEFFECTS OF THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE PROGRAM ON THE SELF-CONCEPT AND SELF-ESTEEM OF CONVICTED INMATES IN CORRECTIONAL CENTRES IN NIGERIA(2020) Prof. Ibrahim Laro ABUBAKARCorrectional educational therapeutic exercise program for health and positive emotional development has become an interesting area in the field of sports and exercise science. Studies confirmed that exercise has proven to be effective in improving and maintaining efficiency of the body physiological and psychological status. However, it is not certain whether Human Kinetics exercise program has the acclaimed potency among individuals who are in correctional centres as a result of convictions and what they stand to gain from it as they transit back to the society hence, this study investigated the interrelationships among incarcerated people with depressed mind and therapeutics exercises. Simple random sampling techniques was used for the selection of correctional centres. Participant were purposely selected based on their inclusion criterial, such as fitness level, willingness, readiness, voluntarism, and educational status. Seventy-four (74) out of one hundred and six (106) convicted inmates who volunteered to partake in his study and were randomly assigned into control and experimental groups. Therapeutic exercise program was therefore found to be a significant correctional education tool for self-concept and self-esteem of inmates in correctional centres. It is therefore recommended that the Government and the Correctional Centres Authorities at all levels should collaborate with expert in the field of sports and exercise science to design appropriate Exercise Program and put in place facilities that would boost self-concept and self-esteem status of prison inmates, so that upon completion of convicted term the integration and re-entry back into the society would be smother and highly integrating for a long term success and avenue for positive contributions.
- ItemRelationship Between Leadership Styles of Sports Administrators and Orgranisational Development in Ilorin Metropolis, Nigeria(2021-04-01) Issa Yaqub AJEIGBE, Abdulraheem Yunus OWOLABI & Semiu ALASINRINThe research employs descriptive survey design of correlation type which is very important as the study tries to find out the relationship between leadership styles of sports administrators and organization performance in Ilorin. Populations for the study are 62 sports personnel in the sports council Ilorin which comprised of Director of Sports, Stadium manager, organizing secretaries and coaches of the existing 20 sports in the Kwara State Sports Council. Researcher questionnaire designed in a modified four points likert rating scale was used to collect data from the respondents which was validated by a Professor of sports management and a season sports administrator, ministry of youth and sports, Abuja and tested for reliability using split half method and Cronbach alpha was used to determine the result with a coefficient of 0.80 obtained. Inferential statistic of multiple regressions was used to test the null hypotheses formulated at 0.05 level of significance. The findings reveal that leadership styles of sports administrators have significant relationship with organization performance, each leadership style has significant contribution to organization performance and all the leadership styles significantly contributed to organization performance. Among the recommendations suggested include: Sports administrators must be able to employ variety of leadership style is the best among others.

To ascertain the objective of the study, the study focused on Overview of sports, Sports participation, Implication of sports on academic performance of students and Benefits of Sports Performance on academic Performance of Students however, concluded that, sports participation would have no negative implication on students’ academic performance in tertiary institutions. The study also concluded that students of tertiary institution in Nigeria should not be discouraged from participating in sports with the misconception that participation in sports worsens students’ general performance and specifically performance of students of tertiary institution. What this study implies is that, coaches, lecturers and school management should not seize students from participating in sporting activities as this go a long way in assisting them in all ramifications. Itwas suggested that future researcher should broaden the scope of the study to at least two to three countries so as to encourage participation in sports. It was further suggested that the Study should be conducted on the effects of sports participation among secondary and primary school students in Nigeria

The researchers examined the influence of virtual learning on Human Kinetics Education Students’ Academic Achievement in Post Covid-19 Era in Kwara State University, Malete. Populations for the study are 105 which comprised the whole human kinetics students of 2020/2021 academic session. Research questionnaire designed in a modified four points liker’s rating scale was used to collect data from the respondents. This was validated by two experts in the department of Human Kinetics and Health Education Department, Kwara State University and then tested for reliability, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) was used for the significant relationship the reliability coefficient is 0.83. Inferential statistic of T-test was used to test the null hypotheses formulated at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there exists significant difference between male and female respondents on the influence of virtual learning on KWASU Human Kinetics Students’ Academic Achievement. It also revealed that there exists significant difference between male and female respondent on the influence of physical learning of KWASU Human Kinetics Students’ Academic Achievement. Among the recommendations made, are: Male and female students should undergo a counseling session so as to diagnose their level of challenges encountered either on virtual learning or physical learning.

OLAYIWOLA AND AFOLABI, O. STEPHENThis paper unveiled the major challenges being faced by Nigerian students during their engagement in Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). It explores a better way of improving students’ engagement in the Work Experience Scheme by involving small and medium enterprises to provide entrepreneurial exposure and business mentorship. Although the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) has offered many Nigerian students the required exposure to practical work experience, some have not benefited from it. Some of the reasons for this include the increased student population in Nigerian tertiary institutions, the inability of indus tries to absorb all students due to limited spaces, and the inability to pay the required stipend. Other problems include the wrong placement of students for the exercise. This paper proffered strategies for providing a more robust programme of engagement that would promote entrepreneurial spirit and skills required by students to establish personal ventures and succeed at it at the end of their academic pursuit. The programme will provide oppor tunities to capture all that the students are required to go for SIWES in a more appropriate setting and provide rich collaboration between Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’S) and educational institutions in Nigeria.
- ItemPre-Primary School Teachers’ and Classroom Characteristics Towards The Attainment of the Objectives of Policy Documents in Early Childhood Education in North Central, Nigeria(International Journal of Academic Pedagogical Research (IJAPR), 2022-07-07) SULYMAN Hafees Tosin , Prof. Monica Ngozi ODINKO , Dr. OLORISADE Olayiwola G. , Usman Tunde SAADU. Ph.D.Pre-primary education is adjudged the best investment any country can offer the young generation. Hence, the study, investigated exploration of pre-primary school teachers’ and classroom characteristics towards the attainment of the objectives of policy documents in early childhood education in north central, Nigeria. The descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The sample consisted of 81 pre-primary schools. Multi-stage sampling was used to select the sample. Researcher-designed questionnaires were used to elicit information. Pre-primary school Teacher Characteristics Questionnaire (PTCQ), and Pre primary school Classroom Characteristics Checklist (PCCC) all the instruments and were subjected to face and content validation. The reliabilities of the instruments were established using PPMC; the result yielded 0.91, and 0.96 respectively. Two research questions were generated and answered. Descriptive statistics of frequency, mean, and percentage were used to answer the research questions. The findings indicated that teachers with NCE qualification were more in number, female teachers were more in number than male teachers. Also, the groups chosen by pupils’ were predominant in the classroom. The grid was the most used seating arrangement in some pre-primary school, the most available learning corner in most pre-primary school classrooms was play corner. It was recommended that the bodies in charge of granting approval for the establishment of pre-primary schools across the country should be proactive and be more meticulous in following the minimum standards.
