- ItemTextbook utilization and class participation as predictors of pupils’ academic achievement in mathematics(JECPE, 2014) Obafemi, K.E., Orji, J. C., & Ola-Alani, E. K.The study investigated textbook utilization and class participation as predictors of academic achievement in mathematics in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. Survey research design was adopted for this study. 480 primary six pupils were randomly selected. Three (3) research instruments were used for data gathering- Questionnaire on Pupils' Utilization of Mathematics Textbooks (QPUMT), Observation Scale Measuring Pupils ' Participation in Mathematics Class ( OSMPPMC) and Mathematic Achievement Test (MAT). Both QPUMT (a = 0.84) and OSMPPMC (a = 0.87) were validated and tested for reliability with Cronbach's Alpha while MAT (K - R 20 = 0.72) was equally validated and tested for reliability with the use of Kuder - Richardson Formular 20 ( KR20 ). Analysis of data was carried out using multiple linear regression. The findings showed that there was positive relationship among textbook utilization (r = .597), class participation (r = .607) and pupils’ academic achievement. The predictor variables were significant in their composite contribution to the prediction of academic achievement in mathematics (F ( 2, 477 ) = 267.963 ; R = .727, R² = .529 , Adj. R² = .527 ). About 53 % of the variation in pupils ' academic achievement in mathematics was accounted for by the predictor variables. Also, the predictor variables were significant in their relative contribution to the prediction of academic achievement in mathematics. Class participation of the pupils had the highest predictive rate of academic achievement in Mathematics. Based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers should use teaching strategies or methods that will foster active participation of pupils in Mathematics class. It was also recommended that pupils should make use of the recommended Mathematics textbooks.

- ItemAN EXPLORATION INTO DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF CHILD LABOURERS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, KWARA STATE, NIGERIA(JOURNAL OF EARLY CHILDHOOD ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, 2017-06-18) Dr. Hafees Tosin SULYMANChildren are wonderful creation, an image of what we use to be (childhood). Children are foetus form from the union of male sperm and female egg. Children moved through all the stages in pre natal and gradually become an adult who are responsible and fully aware of their actions. Before reaching this stage, they are vulnerable and depend on external factors for their growth and development. Engaging these young children in any activities that affect their development or prevent them from attending school is called child labour. This study investigated the characteristics of the child labourer, result indicates that children were all of school age; some of the children were living with their parent while others were living with guardian, masters and distance relatives. Children from less educated parents and with low income background form the majority of the child labourers.
- ItemSTEP-BY-STEP DEPLOYMENT OF INDEPENDENT T-TEST USING SPSS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD STUDIES(University of Maiduguri Press, 2019) Obafemi, K. E.Conducting research is a prerequisite to adding to the body of existing knowledge. The findings of any research can be adjudged trustworthy only if the data gathered are analysed with the appropriate statistical tool(s) because the use of wrong statistical tool(s) can mar the findings of such research. There are many parametric statistical tools which can be used to analyse data especially, when the variables involved in the study are dichotomous categorical independent variable and continuous dependent variable, hence, independent samples t-test is the most appropriate statistical tool required for such analysis. Independent samples t-test is used to compare the mean scores of two different groups of people or conditions. The analysis of independent samples t-test can be computed manually but it is prone to error(s) particularly when large sample is involved. However, the use of computer application can help to avert the potential errors of manual analysis of research data. This paper unfolds the meaning of independent samples t-test, its assumptions underlying the use of independent samples t-test and the step by step procedures for analysing data using computer application of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS).

One research question was raised and three research hypotheses were formulated. Frequency count, percentage and mean were used to answer the research question while formulated hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using inferential statistics of independent samples t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The findings of the study revealed that teachers' perception of the use of Social Studies in addressing the troubles in democracy was positive. Gender (t = -1.255; df = 116; P > 0.05), school type (t =-1.337; df = 116; P > 0.05) and qualification (F (3; 114) = 1.050; P > 0.05) did not account for any significant difference in teachers’ perception of the use of Social Studies in addressing the troubles in democracy. Based on the findings, it was recommended that current challenges of democracy in Nigeria should be included in social studies curriculum so that the future leaders who are still in school now can be taught how these challenges can be addressed democratically.

Throughout this time, all sectors became paralyzed and education is inclusive and students were made to move about on the street without doing anything reasonable. Technology has eased the burden on us today and There ought to be none a justification for any student not learning in any situation. Apart from a circumstance like COVID-19, which led to the closure of schools some years back, the student population today is worrisome owing to the admission policy of carrying capacity that does not allow some institutions to admit more than what their resources could serve. Many qualified students today could not be admitted into tertiary institutions because of the problem of where to put them during classroom interaction. Descriptive statistics of frequency, mean, and percentage were used to answer the research questions. The findings indicated that teachers with NCE qualification were more in number, female teachers were more in number than male teachers. Also, the groups chosen by pupils’ were predominant in the classroom. The grid was the most used seating arrangement in some pre-primary school, the most available learning corner in most pre-primary school classrooms was play corner. - ItemEffect of Blended Learning Teaching Strategy on the Academic Performance of Pupils in Social Studies(2022-04) Usman Tunde SAADUOne of the modern trends in education and one of the new trends in teaching in the twenty first century is blended learning, which can be defined as an educational approach in which more than one means is used to convey knowledge and experience to learners in order to achieve the best learning results. So, it's important to use a mixed-methods approach to teaching. The study employed a quasi-experimental design, and its sample size was 75 people who were selected via stratified sampling and simple random sampling. All of the study participants took a social studies-related achievement test both before and after the research was done. Through a series of tests and retests, the reliability of this instrument was established. Using Pearson's product moment correlation, we were able to calculate an instrument's reliability coefficient of 0.74. (PPMC). The collected data was analysed using an Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). There was a significant improvement in students' social studies grades as a direct result of their treatment (F (1; 70) = 14.358; P 0.05), as determined by testing all hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. Furthermore, the results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the sexes in terms of social studies performance (F (1; 70) =.020; P > 0.05). Furthermore, school type was found to have a significant impact on students' social studies grades (F (1; 70) =37.306; P > 0.05). For the subject of social studies, we also discovered that there was no treatment by gender interaction (F (1; 70) =.036; P >.05). In addition, there was no indication of an effect of treatment by school type (F (1; 70) =1.492, P > 0.05) on students' performance in social studies. Regarding students' performance in social studies, no significant gender by school type interaction was found (F (1; 70) =.385; P >.05). In terms of social studies performance, there were no statistically significant differences between the groups of students (F (1; 70) =.827; P >.05). Blended learning appears to have had a major impact on the students' performance in social studies. Seminars and workshops, for instance, were proposed as possible venues for educating educators on the subject of blended educatio
