- ItemA Qualitative Study on Contribution of Private Universities to the Development of Kwara State, Nigeria: An Empirical Evidence from Al-Hikmah University(2022-01-08) Yusuf, Suleman, Mustapha Adam Ishola and Saheed LawalAs captured in the National Policy of Education that private investors are needed to contribute to the growth of the country, the current study finds out the contribution of private universities to the advancement of Kwara State with evidence from Al-Hikmah University. The research design adopted was a qualitative type. Both purposive and convenience sampling techniques were employed to select four participants for the study. An interview protocol titled “Interview Protocol on Contribution of Private Universities (IPCPU)’’ was employed to elicit relevant information. Findings indicate that the university contributes immensely to the growth of Kwara State. The contribution includes enrolment of students into the university, employment generation, and manpower development. Similarly, results indicate that the challenges connected to the university include non-access to external funds and inconsistent government policy among others. It was suggested that government should provide enabling environment to remove the policy threat by giving constitutional recognition to the efforts of the private sector in the creation and operation of private universities
- ItemRelationship Between Academic Staff Job Satisfaction and Goal Achievement in Private Universities in South-West, Nigeria(Islamic University, Uganda, 2020-08-18) Adedayo Yusuf Abdulkareem1 , Mustapha Adam Ishola and Yusuf SuleimanAcademic staff job satisfaction is indispensable in the actualization of university goals. Thus, the study examined academic staff job satisfaction and goal achievement in private Universities in South-west, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design of the correlation type. Purposive sampling was used to select three out of the six States in the geopolitical Zone and 10 out of the 23 private universities. The proportional sampling technique was used to select 565 out of the 1,130 academic staff in the institutions, while 200 employers of labor were chosen randomly. "Academic Staff Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASJSQ)" and Goal Achievement Questionnaire (GAQ)" were used to collect data for the study. The instruments were validated and subjected to reliability tests, while reliability coefficients of .85 and .73 were obtained for ASJSQ and GAQ, respectively. Pearson product-moment correlation statistical method was used to test the hypotheses formulated at .05 level of significance. The study's findings revealed a significant relationship between academic staff job satisfaction and goal achievement in private universities in South-West, Nigeria (r = .66, p< .05). The study concluded that academic staff job satisfaction is a crucial factor that enhances staff productivity and facilitates goal achievement of private universities in South-west, Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended, among others, that prominence should be given to stimulate the work environment to boost academic staff morale, thereby facilitating the attainment of university goals.
- ItemEDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA: CHALLENGES AND WAY FORWARD(Department of Educational Management, Kwara State University, Malete, 2025-07-14) Adam Ishola Mustapha, Joy Eneka Okedare and Adejumon MaryamEducation is a lifelong process that helps individuals to acquire the basic knowledge, skills, and values needed to become functional members of the society. Thus, it becomes imperative that a nations education is not toiled with but instead be properly managed by professional managers who are vested with the appropriate knowledge to adequately execute planned educational policies and programmes. However, In Nigeria, educational management faces numerous challenges that affect the overall quality of education. Thus, this paper examines educational management in Nigeria: challenges and way forward. The concepts of education, management and educational management were looked into. Also, the roles of educational management were examined. The challenges of the efficacy of educational management were equally elucidated among which are: poor funding, inequality in resource distribution, political consideration in management selection and inadequate professional development programme among others. The paper concludes that educational management is a necessity for the advancement of educational programmes in Nigeria. The paper suggests among other that stakeholders in education should support timely and affordable professional training and retraining programmes for education managers at all levels of education, educational managers should be recruited into educational institutions and agencies and appointed to handle educational programmes by merit rather than connection. Also, there is needs to re-evaluate, re-position the management of educational system n both government and non-government institutions across Nigeria to address to enhance the efficacy of the system.
- ItemACADEMIC STAFF TURNOVER IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES: CHALLENGES AND WAY FORWARD(2023-12-02) Adam Ishola Mustapha, Kikelomo .W Sallee & Rashidat Modupe Oladimeji Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education,The issue of academic turnover in Nigerian universities poses severe challenge to university system as a sizable number of proven scholars from the institutions have migrated abroad in search of greener pastures in the last two decades, while many of them have been absorbed into universities and Centers of Research in Europe, America and Asian countries. Nigerian universities have witnessed a series of industrial conflicts due to the failure of the employers to review their conditions of service and the progressive encroachment upon the power and authority of the governing council as well as internal day-to-day administration of universities through government directives Thus, job continuity and turnover among University lecturers has often attracted the attention of educational administrators, planners, policy makers, agencies and relevant stakeholders. Therefore, the study examined academic staff turnover in Nigerian universities: challenges and way forwards. The concept of turnover was scholarly examined from different perspectives. Specifically, it discusses the causes, such as: inadequate funding of education, poor conditions of service for academics when compared to their counterparts abroad, poor state of infrastructural facilities, oppression of academic staff and interference of government in institution’s internal affairs among others. The study concluded that the magnitude at which academics leave universities in Nigeria poses serious challenges to university education in the country. To curtail this menace in Nigerian universities, adequate funding of universities, provision and rehabilitation of decay infrastructures, open administration, non-interference of government in university internal affairs and wooing professionals in diaspora back to the country become imperative.

Anwarulislam and Florence Bosede FamoluDuring the first quarter of the year 2020, the outbreak of the global Covid-19 pandemic attracted public attention and raised deep concern to all stakeholders. This has undoubtedly taken the world unconscious, ill-equipped, and unwary thus leaving the countries affected to experience the overwhelming consequences on all sectors of the economy including aviation, sports, agriculture, and education. The virus, which was detected in Wuhan City, China, has affected more than 130 countries globally. The shutdown of educational institutions in Nigeria was due to the outbreak of the virus, which disrupted educational delivery to students. In the light of the foregoing, this study examined the reassessment of the first wave of the covid-19 pandemic and the need for strategic management of education in Kwara State. Assessments from global, African, and Nigerian perspectives were discussed. Various effects of covid-19 on the educational system were carefully assessed. The concept and process of strategic management were carefully looked at. Procedures for diverse strategic management of education were dissected by providing a model that can be used to improve the education system. The study concluded that the importance of education cannot be underestimated; hence the need for diverse management of education is imperative for the overall achievement of educational goals. The measures include the inclusion of online learning in the school curriculum to ensure that teaching and learning are not affected, the availability of digital gadgets for teachers and students in school for effective implementation of education at all levels.
