- ItemEffect of Dividend Payment Pattern on Corporate Performance: Evidence from First Bank Nigeria Plc(Department of Business Administration, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, University, Lapai, Niger State-Nigeria, 2012-12-23) Aun, I I; Abdul, F.A; Yusuf. IABSTRACT A high dividend payment is more important to investors looking forward to secure current income to maximise their earnings, while management may probably want to retain profit. Thus, organisations are faced with the problem of the type of dividend policy that would increase investment and shareholders' wealth as well as profitability and growth of the company. The study examines the effect of dividend payment pattern on profitability and growth of the firm the effect of poor or bad dividend payment on the value of shares to corporate firms and the effect of poor or bad dividend payment patterns on the shareholders of corporate firms. Primary data were used for the study, which were generated through a questionnaire. Convenience sampling was used to select staff of First Bank PLC, Ilorin branches. Ordinary least squares regression analysis method was used to analyse the data gathered. The result of the analysis shows that the p-value is 0.037 and is less than the significance level at 0.05. Based on the results of the analysis, it is concluded that cash dividend payment pattern improve the growth, profitability and expectations of the shareholders, who usually build confidence in the firm Therefore, it is recommended that companies should endeavor to include leverage in their capital structure, so as to increase shareholders' wealth

- ItemChanges in Educational Policies and Cultural Values in Nigerian Higher Education: A Critical Analysis(Department of Sociology, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, Nigeria, 2014-09-06) Abdulraheem, Issa Ph.D; Mustapha Oladimeji Rahaman; Yusuf IsmailaAbstract There were many educational reforms in Nigeria with a view to improving the quality of education with particular reference to Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, the concern is that despite various reforms by the federal government in Nigerian higher education, there has not been considerable improvement in the quality and standard of education in Nigeria. The main objective of this paper is therefore to critically examine cultural values of the society as they affect the reforms of the government and how they hinder the implementation of such policies. Using qualitative method, Kwara State University as a case study and adopting reflexivity, and interview, a total of twenty two respondents were interviewed from the University and Malete, the university host. It was discovered that government plans and programmes failed to take into cognisance organisational values and hence crises continue to erupt, leading to further or continuous change in educational policies and programmes. It was also found that implementations of policies became difficult because of different organisational values and cultures in Nigerian higher institutions.
- ItemImpact of Competitive Environmental Factors on the Operational Strategies of Listed Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria's Food and Beverage Industry(Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Ilorin, 2014-12-12) Mustapha; Yusuf Ismaila Ph.D; Abdulsalam, Dauda Ph.D; Abdul, Falilat AjokeAbstract The growth and survival of manufacturing firms operating in the Nigerian food and beverage (FBI) industry is being threatened as a result of the proliferation of assorted goods in the market, and this intense competition has made it imperative for organizations to try to understand the environmental forces that should drive the choice of their operational strategies. This study examined the impact of competitive environmental factors on the choice of operational strategies of listed manufacturing firms in the FBI of the Nigerian economy. The study used appropriate sample size determination methods to arrive at six firms, and 159 management staff were used as the sample size. The primary data was collected through a Likert scale questionnaire administered to the target respondents, while the secondary information was collected through the relevant literature. The study employed regression techniques to analyze the subject of discourse. It was found through the adjusted R²' that competitive factors impacted the manufacturing firms' choice of diversification as operational strategies. It was recommended that management of manufacturing firms in the Nigerian FBI should be proactive in dealing with the environmental dynamism, such as changes in competitors' product quality, product design, pricing strategy, promotional strategy, and the need to fight for shelf spaces in the retailers' shops as forces in the competitive environment.
- ItemStructural Model Framework of Relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and Market Performance in Nigerian Banking and Manufacturing Sector(2015) Olanipekun Wahid Damilola, Lawal Azeez Tunbosun, and Mustapha Rahman OladimejiThe study examined the relationship between CSR and market performance using a structural equation model framework. Survey research design was used in the study. Data for this research was obtained from Primary sources through the aid of a structured questionnaire. Krejche and Morgan formular were used to estimate the sample size. 384 copies of questionnaires were administered to employees of the selected companies out of which only 305 copies were found to be useful for data analysis. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics of partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM). The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 alpha levels. Findings revealed that social responsibility and sustainability are the variable that best predicts the market performance with the following values (β =.372, t= 3.859, p=0.000). The next vital predictor in order of importance is the economic responsibility and sustainability (β = .244, t= 3.545, p= .000) and finally, environmental responsibility and sustainability (β = .169, t= 2.495, p= .013) is significantly related to market performance. Based on the findings, the study concluded that CSR philosophy facilitates the unlocking of the human capital which makes significant contribution to the success of an organization. The study recommends that organizations should embrace the spirit of being socially responsible; because by involving in CSR, it will add to the goodwill of their companies, thereby, increasing their financial worth and eventually boosting their image to gain an edge through increasing patronage for their services.
- ItemINCLINATION TOWARDS E-MARKETING ADOPTION AMONG SERVICE SMES IN KWARA STATE: AN INVESTIGATION OF INTER- CITY TRANSPORT SERVICE(Ilorin Journal of Marketing, Department of Marketing, University of Ilorin, 2015-07-04) ADEBAYO, Philips OlugbengaAs the technology environment changes rapidly and many enterprises struggle to survive the business dynamism, the advent of Electronic-Marketing (E-Marketing) study examines the determinants of E-Marketing adoption among SMEs. The study used a survey research design in collecting the data from respondents and purposive sampling procedure to select a sample that represented the entire population. A survey of 150 self- administered questionnaires was undertaking across 20 selected small and medium inter-city transport services in Ilorin metropolis. The data was analyzed using simple percentage and correlation statistical tools. The findings revealed that 88.3% of inter-city transport service providers has no web presence, another 64.0% do not engage any form of e-marketing while only 33.3% make use of either Short Message Services (SMS) or e-mails. The study concludes that high illiteracy level and poor awareness are the major challenges to e-marketing adoption. The study recommends among others that the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in collaboration with National Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA) should jointly organize seminar, symposium and create awareness about the usefulness of e- marketing among members. - ItemImpact of Government Entrepreneurial Programmes on Youth SMES Participation in Nigeria(2015-08-03) Adebayo, Philips OlugbengaGlobally, the youth have been considered as prime mover of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) due to their creative ability, energy and the drive to achieve. However, weak entrepreneurial climate has been a major constraint militating against the drive for self-reliance and economic autonomy and has resulted to increasing rate of unemployment, vandalism and other social vices among the youth. This study attempts to examine the relationship between government entrepreneurial programmes on youth SMEs participation in Nigeria. A survey of 250 questionnaires was undertaking through an online platform across the beneficiaries of federal governmental SMEs financial intervention schemes – Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YouWiN). The data collected were analyzed utilizing correlation and multiple regression statistical tools. The study concludes that government intervention programmes such as financial, infrastructural and capacity building is paramount to new venture creation among the youth. The findings further reveal a significant positive correlation between availability of fund and new venture creation. The study recommends conscious youth entrepreneurial orientation and capacity development programmes through the outlets of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). Furthermore, more financial intervention schemes such as grants and soft/special loans should be provided to young entrepreneurs as this will alleviate a major constraint to new venture creation which is poor access to finance.
- ItemDeveloping Informal Financing Option for Rural SMEs Growth: a Case of Selected Local Government Areas of Kwara State, Nigeria(International Journal of Management Sciences and Business Research, 2015-09-05) Adebayo, Philips OlugbengaBased on statistical evidences in the last couple of years, Nigeria’s economy is one of the rapidly growing in the world and the fastest growing in Africa. However, in real terms, its people are the most impoverished with high poverty concentration in the rural areas. This study investigates Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and how the informal financing option could boost their performance in the rural areas. A sample of 185 SMEs was selected in a cross- sectional survey research design across two (2) Local Government Areas of Kwara State who are typically rural areas. The returned questionnaires of 125 i.e. (78.1%) were according analyzed using regression and t-test analyses. The findings show that 91.2% of the sample relied only on informal sources of finance for their businesses while 4.0% and 4.8% have accessed the formal and government funding respectively. The study concludes that informal financing option is germane to improving rural SMEs as this will create business expansion, provide more jobs and ultimately reduce high rate of poverty in the rural communities. The paper recommends that government should through Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BOI), Bank of Agriculture (BOA) etc. provide special intervention fund for informal financing channels. Furthermore, international NGOs such as FATE, MTN, Bill and Merlyn Foundations, and other international financial institutions such as African Development Bank (AfDB) International Finance Corporation (IFC) should develop a partnership programme with informal finance providers in Nigeria.
- ItemStakeholder Approach To Corporate Social Responsibility: A Recipe For Sustainable Development(AI-Hikmah Management Review AMR, 2016) Olanipekun Wahid D.; Brimah Aminu N.; Abdulkareem Zulfah J.; Rabiu Rukayat OThis study investigated the relationship between adoption of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and sustainable development with particular emphasis on MTN, Nigeria. Questionnaire administration technique via a structured questionnaire was used to source for data and information from stakeholders. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Pearson Chi Square analysis was used to analyze the data with the aid of Stat a II. 0 statistical software package. The study concludes that the adoption of CSR programs such as skill acquisition, youth empowerment, support for economic, education, and. health development etc indeed has a significant relationship on development of the society. It is recommended that government has a role to play in promoting CSR through creating legislative and regulatory framework that would encourage companies to balance social, environmental and economic concerns given the already intense pressure brought by stakeholders globally on utilization of resources in line with the principles of sustainable development that underpins the concept of CSR.

BrimahThis study investigated the impact of adoption of electronic marketing on organization performance with particular emphasis on Nigerian Banking Industry. The objective of the study was to examine the impact of electronic marketing on Bank performance. Primary data were obtained through the use of structured questionnaire administered to staffs of Gtbank Plc branches in Kwara State. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data with the aid of STATA 11.0 statistical computer software package. The result indicates that e-marketing adoption provides the bank with global outreach, increased sales volume, improved operational efficiency, competitive advantage and above all organization performance. The study concludes that with the rate of globalization in the 21stcentury, e-marketing adoption is germane in improving banks performance. This study recommends that other Nigeria bank and organization should adopt electronic marketing to improve their overall performance.

An understanding of clusters adds an important dimension to the more commonly debated role of personal contact networks in the success of Agricultural. The study adopts a Meta analysis and the use of secondary data. It was concluded that Agriculture in the 21st century requires an urgent turn around. It was recommended that the government should formulate policies, provide legal framework and create enabling environment to support cluster development.

O. Adebayo & G. E. Osanyinlusi & A. O. AdekeyeThere is a conflicting view about the recent introduction of electronic payment platforms amongst retail outlets in Nigeria. This has degenerated to various arguments and controversies among stakeholders. This study attempts to clarify this by investigating the impact of e-payment onbuying behaviour.The study adopts a survey research design. Data were collected through self-administration of questionnaire to customers of selected retail outlets in Ilorin metropolis.A total of 89 copies were correctly filled and analyzed using simple percentage and multiple regression analyses. The result of the findings revealed adjusted R2 was 0.723 for hypothesis I and 0.807 for hypothesis II.This implies that about 73% of the variation in customers buying behaviour is explained by variables in the model - reliability, responsiveness and assurance. While about 81% of the variation in customers payment experience is explained by the variables - security, risk and cost of payment.The study concludes that e-payment system has significant effects on buying behaviour of retail outlets customers as it enables wider coverage of business transactions and increased customer satisfaction. The study recommends that retail outlet operators need to develop better approaches to respond to new order of business transaction with certain degree of creativity and innovativeness.

The survey research design was adopted. Data collected from the survey were analyzed using the Bionomial logistic regression method of analysis was used. The results obtained showed that there is a strong relationship between outsourcing strategy and marke performance, cost saving, efficiency and quality services. The study therefore recommended tha more industry should embrace the outsourcing strategy in order to achieve their corporat performance and targeted high market share.
- ItemImpact of Electricity Service Quality on the Performance of Manufacturing SMEs in Nigeria(2017-06) Abdulrahman Muhammed, Issa Abdulraheem, Ismaila YusufPurpose: The objective of this paper is to determine the impact of electricity service quality on both financial and non-financial performance of manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs in Nigeria. Design/Methodology/Approach: Survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 201 Managers, Chief executive officers and owner managers of SMEs that are members of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria MAN. Simple regression analysis was done with the use of SPSS version 22.0. Findings: The results indicate that quality of electricity tends to account for more than 50% of the variances in the financial and non-financial performance of manufacturing SMEs in Nigeria. Implications/Originality/Value: This paper contributes to the existing literature on the empirical investigation into the use of service quality as a measure of electricity service and also emphasizes the importance of electricity to the performance of manufacturing SMEs in the developing countries. It recommends that future research may consider collecting longitudinal data to eliminate bias related to time

- ItemTHE POWER SECTOR AND ITS IMPACTS ON INDUSTRIALIZATION OF BUSINESSES IN NIGERIA(Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, 2017-12-25) Abu Zekeri; Idowu, H. A. O,; Akinbola, Olufemi AmosThe study investigates the link between power supply and business industrial development by examining the influence of government policies on power supply and industrial development in Nigeria. The Johansen Co-Integration technique was adopted to determine the long run relationship among some macroeconomic variables that includes the industrial component of Real Gross Domestic Product, explicitly chosen using explanatory variables. The independent variables includes electricity consumption, electricity production (Kwh), growth rate of labour force, real gross fixed capital formation and telephone lines per hundred population and their impact on industrial component of real GDP. Annual time series data on these variables from 1981 to 2010 were collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin, the World Bank and United Nations Statistics. Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) and Phillip-Perron (PP) tests are employed to test the order of integration of the variables. The study also performed a Vector Error Correction Model-VECM to correct possible disequilibrium caused in the short-run relationships. The study concluded that electricity condition which is a result of existing government policies exerts a negative impact on industrial output in the long run affects the business viability.

S., Olalekan, A., & Salau. A. A,The paper examines the link between Strategic Human Resources Management (SHRM) and Small-Medium Firm (SMF) Performance. The objectives of the study are to explore the link between Strategic SHRM practices and Small-Medium Firm Performance and also to examine whether factors like size, maturity, planning level, and availability of human resource department make any difference in practicing SHRM to the selected firms in the food industry in Nigeria. Survey research design, which gives room for the use of a questionnaire, was employed. Regression, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were used to test the hypothesis. The findings show that R2 value of 0.511 reveals that Strategic Human Resources Management independently accounts for 51.1% of the variation of Small-Medium Firm Performance, which reveal that there is a significant relationship between Strategic Human Resources Management and Small-Medium Firm Performance. R2 value of 0.658 reveals that Size, maturity, planning level and availability of HR department (HRD) accounts for 65.8% of the variation in SHRM practices, which reveal that Size, maturity, planning level and availability of HR department significantly affect SHRM practices of the firms. Thus, the study recommends SMF to find ways to manage human resources more efficiently and effectively in order to remain competitive in the globalized market.
- ItemEFFECT OF CULTURAL ORIENTATION ON ENTREPRENEURIAL CLUSTER INITIATIVES IN KWARA STATE NIGERIA(International Journal of Advance Research and Innovative Ideas in Education, 2018) Abdulazeez Alhaji SalauThis research x-rays entrepreneurial cluster and Cultural Orientation in Kwara State. This study therefore surveyed the extent to which entrepreneurial cluster can be influenced by cultural orientation. A total of 153 copies of questionnaire were administered among rice cluster along the Patigi and Edu value chain in Kwara. Analysis of the data through the use of descriptive tables and simple regression analysis of the SPSS package, shows that a significant percentage of cultural orientation is required for a cluster to be entrepreneurial .The study therefore concluded that the cultural orientation must be put into consideration in entrepreneurial cluster initiatives.

The objectives of the study are to examine the effect of Employee Benefit on Job Performance and also to investigate the effect of Work Bonuses on Em ployees Motivation. 124 copies of questionnaire were administered to Cadbury Plc employees in Lagos State, Nigeria to get primary data that treated and tested appropriate research questions and hypotheses accordingly. For the purpose of this study, correlation and descriptive research was employed. The Yamane formula was adopted to determine the sample size. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences and Cronbach’s alpha was employed. The study found out that employee bonus significantly affects employee motivation in business and employee benefit significantly affects job satisfaction in business. The study recommends that organizations need to have a reward system(s) as a standard which is considered fair and equitable. Not having a reward system in an organization will lead to resistance from the employees and also Incentive management and prac tices such as pay incentives and fringe benefits should be based on realistic and standard methods in accordance with industrial benchmarks, indices and procedures and should likewise conform to ethical valuations and practices
