- ItemCHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS OF SHARICAH COURTS IN NIGERIA(Springboard Journal Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, 2018) Muhammad Jum'at DasukiBefore the advent of British colonial rule, Islamic law in its total ramifications applied in the territories, which later on became Nigeria after colonization. The Islamic law was the system through which Islamic civil and criminal laws were applied by the Alkali courts. The British introduced the English law, which however did not completely abrogate the existing and dominant Islamic legal system under the Sokoto Caliphate but subjected it to some limitations by confining the application of the Sharicah and jurisdictions of Sharicah Courts to personal status. The Commander of the faithful Amirul Mumineen or Emir had to wait for the approval of the Resident or District Commissioner in the appointment of Sharicah judges and the latter was empowered to supervise the judges and review or transfer their cases. This paper therefore tries to examine the position of Sharicah Courts in Nigeria before and under the British colonialism. It also analyzes the history and prospectus of Sharicah Courts as well as challenges presently facing the Sharicah courts in Nigeria. The methodology used for this study included analytical, critical and historical approaches, while library sources were extensively utilized as a tool of sourcing for information. The paper concludes with some suggestions as a way out of the nightmare.

- ItemPRINCIPLES OF GOOD GOVERNANCE IN ISLAM: AN EXEMPLARY GUIDE FOR THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY(Journal of Religion and Peace Studies, Faclty of Arts, Lagos State University, Ojo Lagos, 2018) MUHAMMAD JUMAT DASUKIIslam is a complete code of life. It guides people in all aspects of their lives ranging from how to behave inside the house, business and government. Islam is a perfect religion to follow if you want to implement good governance in your home, office, state and country. Islam demands its followers to create a just society, the core purpose of which is to look after the welfare and betterment of the people who constitute the society. Both the Quran and Sunnah have provided some principles in the areas of constitutional affairs that cannot be omitted from any government system. Islamic state is responsible to look after the poor, needy, orphans, destitute, widows and other such people. Islam insists to enthroning such a person who is knowledgeable, compassionate, brave and most importantly honest. In Islam, the person with the highest rank in the society that is the ruler is also the most responsible for the welfare of that society. Virtually everyone can bring the performance and integrity of the ruler in question if such a ruler refuses to perform according to the teachings of Islam. The model of good governance offered by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is unmatched in all respects and the policies pursued by his followers especially the first four caliphs (R.A.) offer great insight for the modern world as well. This paper therefore examines good governance in accordance with Qur`an and Sunnah as well as the laid down principles of good governance in Islam.

- ItemWomen’s Right in Islamic Law of Inheritance: Justification and Illustration(Burjis: Vol 9, Issue 2, 2022-12) Dr. Muhammad Jum`at DasukiDespite the perfection in the Islamic Law of Inheritance, the Status of Women in Islamic Law of Inheritance has become a subject of attack in present times that Islam the decision for making the share of women half of the share of men is injustice. Also, a woman who is already permanently divorced from her husband has no claim to inheritance, regardless of marital status in this case. The protest against the efficacy of Islamic Law of Inheritance comes from west and even certain Muslims are of similar attitude. They believed that the Islamic law of inheritance is unjust to women. We as Muslims have firm conviction that Allah is a just and there is no injustice towards all His creature is found in His divine law. Islam does not discriminate between male and female in any way, but rather deals justly between them in all cases which include inheritance. The basis for allocation of anything is the right before an individual. Therefore, such a claim does not shake our beliefs, rather calls for an in-depth clarification and, justification of Islamic law of inheritance as stipulated by the Quran and Sunnah. This work shows how Islamic law has treated women and clarifies how it has given protection to them even more than any other legal system of successions in the world. The finding of this research is that estate distribution in Islam is done based on merit rather than sentiment. The paper applies analytical, historical approaches with presentation based on survey of relevant literature, and concludes with useful recommendations.

- Itemhariah-Compliant Ethics And Their Impact On Academic Integrity In Higher Education(SLAMIC UNIVERSITY JOURNAL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES VOL 4, NO 3, 2025-07) Dr. Muhammad Jumat DasukiThis paper examines the role of Sharīʿah-compliant ethics in promoting academic integrity within higher education, particularly in Islamic universities. With increasing concerns over academic misconduct, including plagiarism, cheating, and data falsification, the study aims to address the gap in academic integrity by integrating Islamic ethical principles such as trustworthiness (amānah), accountability (ḥisbah), and justice (ʿadl). The methodology employed includes a literature review of recent case studies from Islamic universities in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria, as well as a comparative analysis of academic integrity frameworks in Western and Islamic contexts. - ItemSTUDY OF MISUSE OF SELECTED CHAPTERS OF THE QUR'ĀN AMONG THE YORUBA MUSLIMS(At-Turath: Journal of Islamic Heritage and Civilisation, 2025-12) Ambali Tajudeen Imam; Dr. Muhammad Jumat DasukiThe Qur'an, as the revealed word of Allah and the foundation of Islamic belief and practice, serves as a comprehensive guide for both spiritual and worldly affairs. Because any alteration to it directly threatens the integrity of Islam, its preservation has always been regarded as a sacred responsibility. From the Prophet's era to the present day, Muslims have consistently devoted themselves to safeguarding the Qur'an from corruption or distortion, and this collective vigilance explains why the text remains unchanged. Building on this legacy of protection, the paper investigates certain practices among Yoruba Muslims that may unintentionally distort the Qur'an and, therefore, constitute a form of abuse and misuse. Focusing on three chapters—Al-Mulk, Al-Waqi'ah, and AlKahf—the study examines unconventional methods of writing and reciting the Qur'an introduced by some Yoruba Mallams. The findings show that these practices are unfamiliar to mainstream Islamic scholarship and pose risks to the accurate transmission of the Qur'anic text. If such practices continue, they may eventually influence how future generations understand the Qur'an. The study identifies Jalabi practitioners and certain Sufi groups as the major contributors to these distortions and urges Muslims to avoid any actions that may compromise the purity and authenticity of the Qur'an.
