O.This study explores the Olojo Festival in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, as a crucial cultural event with implications for domestic tourism and socio-economic development. Through desk research methodology involving literature review and analysis of official documents and media sources, the study delves into the historical and cultural significance of the festival. The Olojo Festival, rooted in Yoruba mythology, serves as a religious and cultural celebration, honoring the descent of Oduduwa and the creation of the earth. It is positioned as an integral part of Nigeria's cultural heritage, offering tourists opportunities to experience the rich diversity of Nigerian culture. The study examines the socio-economic impacts of the festival, including local income generation, tradition preservation, economic development, job creation, and community development. Despite challenges such as environmental pollution and overcrowding, the festival's positive contributions to local economies and cultural preservation are highlighted. Additionally, the Olojo Festival is recognized for its intangible benefits, fostering pride, identity, and unity among the Yoruba people and promoting cultural exchange and dialogue within Nigerian society. Thus, the study advocates for continued support and promotion of the Olojo Festival and similar cultural events as essential drivers of economic growth and cultural resilience in Ile-Ife and beyond because the festival as emerged as a vital platform for promoting domestic tourism, fostering community development, and preserving cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

Through a thorough examination of historical development, demand factors, and current management practices, the study highlights the strategic position of rural tourism in contributing to economic growth and community development. It emphasizes the emergence of creative tourism as a catalyst for entrepreneurial ventures, where local businesses play a pivotal role in providing authentic experiences to tourists. Drawing from theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence, the research traces the stages of tourism development and identifies the challenges and opportunities faced by small businesses in rural areas. Lifestyle entrepreneurship emerges as a significant driver, motivated by a desire to contribute to local revitalization and sustainable development. By analyzing motivations, management practices, and economic impacts, the study underscores the importance of fostering sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems in rural tourism destinations. - ItemCommunity-Based Tourism and Development of Waterfall Attractions in Southwest, Nigeria: Case of Erin Ijesha and Arinta Waterfalls(International Journal of Contemporary Research in Humanities, 2024) Bashiru, A. A.; Adebusuyi, J.; Folorunso, O. S.This study examined community-based Tourism (CBT) and the development of waterfall attractions in Southwest Nigeria, focusing on Erin-Ijesha and Arinta waterfalls. Using a descriptive survey design, the research explored community roles in developing these attractions, particularly their participation levels, satisfaction, and perceived impact on host communities. A total of 365 residents participated in the survey; the data was collected through self-structured questionnaires measuring community roles, participation, satisfaction, and the impact of waterfall development. Descriptive (percentages and mean ranking) and inferential statistics (independent sample t-tests and ANOVA) were employed for analysis. The findings revealed that, while communities are seen as integral to waterfall project planning, government consultations, and tourism promotion, actual participation in these developmental activities is low, resulting in widespread dissatisfaction. However, despite the limited participation, residents perceive positive impacts of the waterfalls on cultural heritage and environmental sustainability. Additionally, demographic factors such as age and religious affiliation were found to influence participation levels and perceptions of tourism development. The study underscores the need for greater community involvement and satisfaction in waterfall development to foster sustainable tourism and preserve cultural and environmental resources in Southwest Nigeria.
- ItemGuests’ Perception of Hotel’s Image in Ilorin Metropolis, Nigeria: The Role of Employees’ Performance(EKSU Journal of Management Scientists, 2024-04-15) Bashiru, A. A.; Folorunso, O. S.; Igbekele, G. O.; Adebayo, H. M.Of the several factors that contribute to guests’ perception of hotel’s image, employees’ performance is rarely discussed. On this premise, this study explored guest perception regarding the impact of employees’ performance on the image of hotels in Ilorin metropolis. It adopted a descriptive research design, and data were collected through objective and structured procedures. The accessible population were guests in 3 major hotels in Ilorin metropolis. Due to the infinite population size, 120 questionnaires were distributed (40 per hotel) using simple random sampling. Data were analysed through relative frequency analysis. The findings of this study indicate that employees’ performance in hotel could control the hotel’s image and aid its marketing. Employees’ performance can equally improve the patronage of the hotel as it reflects hotel value thereby enhancing customer loyalty. The paper draws conclusions and identify the guest perception on the influence of employees’ performance on hotel image and gives signal to the human resource management of the hospitality industry to take remedial actions on the overall practice of performance on marketing of hotel image in order to minimize those factors leading to negative perception of guests. This study recommended that the management of hotels should put in good efforts in the recruitment of qualified employees, as this will influence the effective performance and productivity of the employee, and the hotel at large.

O.; Folorunso, O. S.The aim of this study is to examine occupational health in the Nigerian hospitality industry using premier hotel, Ibadan, as the case study. Workers are exposed to common hazards in the hospitality industry such as ergonomic hazards, mechanical hazard, electrical hazards, chemical hazards, physical hazards and stress hazards. This study adopted a mixed research data collection method, using qualitative and quantitative approach. The findings revealed that work-related injuries and job hazards are common phenomenon in the industry while the management of the hotel have made tremendous effort to reduce the risk associated with working in the hotel through proper orientation of staff, employment of HACCP, and putting measures in place to control workplace injuries and job hazards as applicable to all department in the hotel.

The world is in the age of digital transformation, and so are consumer needs and behaviors. For any industry to remain relevant, it must key into the new wave. Considering the hospitality industry, not much has been done to really assess and document the contribution of technology to customers’ decision-making when choosing a hotel. This study therefore investigated the impact of technological innovation on the hospitality industry, using key objectives such as determining the level of technological orientation amongst hoteliers; ascertaining the degree of adaptability of the hotel employee to the new innovations; and assessing the guest experience of technological innovations in the hospitality industry. A descriptive research design was adopted for this work via a quantitative research strategy. Eko Hotel and Suites was used as a case study; with the research population being the customer and staff of the hotel. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the findings that ensued from the survey conducted for this work. This work concludes that the benefits of technological innovations outweigh the perceived shortfalls and customers prefer to patronize technologically innovative hospitality outlets like Eko Hotel and Suites.

The world is in the age of digital transformation, so is consumer‟s needs and behaviour. For any industry to remain relevant, it must key into the new wave. Considering the hospitality industry, not much has been done to really assess and document the contribution of technology to customers‟ decision making when choosing a hotel. This study therefore aims to investigate the impact of technological innovation on the hospitality industry, using key objectives such as determining the level of technological orientation amongst hotel employees; ascertaining the degree of adaptability of the hotel employee to the new innovations; and assessing the guest experience of technological innovations in the hospitality industry. Survey research design was adopted for this work via quantitative research strategy. Eko Hotels and Suites was used as a case study; with the research population being the customer and staff of the hotel which comprises randomly selected 65 staff and 152 guests. Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the findings that ensued from the survey conducted for this work. The major finding of this study shows that the benefits of technological innovations outweigh the perceived shortfalls, and customers prefers to patronize technological innovative hospitality outlets like Eko Hotels and Suites. S.; Bashiru, A. A.; Igbekele G. O.This comprehensive study delves into the transformative influence of M & M Event Center on the social fabric of Kwara State society. The primary focus is on understanding how the event center facilitates social interactions, bolsters community engagement, stimulates economic activity, and fosters social cohesion. The study follows a quantitative approach, encompassing surveys for quantitative data collection and interviews for qualitative insights. With a participant pool of 80 respondents, the research captures a rich cross-section of demographics. The results are indicative of a vibrant ecosystem within the event center, where a diversity of social events and gatherings thrive, enhancing the social interactions of attendees. A prevailing positivity is observed among event participants, organizers, and the local community, corroborating the center's substantial social impact. Furthermore, the center's economic significance is underscored by its contribution to increased economic activity and the positive reverberations felt throughout the local community and the wider economy. An essential dimension of the study unveils the center's role in nurturing a sense of belonging, fostering unity, and amplifying community engagement. These findings are aligned with the evolving global trends in tourism, which emphasize experiential, communitybased, and socially conscious travel. By offering an expansive range of social experiences and providing spaces conducive to networking, M & M Event Center emerges as a vital hub for interactions that transcend mere transactions. These interactions, in turn, contribute to economic growth, while the sense of unity promotes social cohesion.

S.Customer satisfaction is a psychological concept that involves the feeling of well-being and pleasure that results from obtaining what one hopes for and expects from an appealing product and/or service. The more satisfied the customers are, the most likely they are to return or prolong their stay. Many hospitality facilities in Kwara State especially hotels are still not perfect in rendering customer service particularly in areas such as security, parking space, attractiveness, after sales services and sensitivity to guest needs, general attitude towards guest among others, in other to attain guest satisfaction. This requires an immediate intervention of the hotel management to save the hotel from losing its old guests to their competitors. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the impact of food quality, service and physical environment on customer satisfaction using on Kwara Hotel, Ilorin, as a model. The research design adopted for this work is case study design which used mixed research design involving explorative and explanatory survey methods. Questionnaire and participant observation were the main instruments used for data collection. Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to compute the result and analysed the findings of the survey. Recommendations were made based on the findings of this work.

M.; Akande, E. A.; Folorunso, O. S.This study examines the influence of food quality, service and physical environment using Kwara Hotel, Ilorin as case study. The main aim of the study is to investigate the role of quality food, the service delivery and physical environment of the food service establishment on customer experience. The study adopted a survey research design, utilizing a quantitative data collection approach. The findings revealed that quality of food and beverages on offer, couple with the exceptional service delivery of the establishment contribute to the overall meal experience of the guests. The findings also show that aesthetic and ambience contribute to the acceptance of the physical environment of the Food Service Establishment.
