- ItemCULTURAL TOURISM AS A TOOL FOR NATION BUILDING, A CASE OF REMILEKE FESTIVAL, ETI-OSA, LAGOS STATE(NIGERIAN JOURNAL OF ARTS AND CULTURE, 2017-06-05) BASHIRU ADEKUNLEABSRACT In Nigeria, culture is manifested in art, dance, language, literature, folklore, mores, music, government, festival, museums and the environment. Tourists engage in cultural experience searching for authenticity and meaning of these cultural heritage. The motivation of such tourist and their behaviour in a destination lead to the creation of cultural manifestations developed specifically for tourists’ consumption. This study is based on the development of cultural tourism in Nigeria with a particular reference to Remileke festival. Remileke festival is a potential tourist attraction with lots of cultural attachments exploitable for national development. The cultural aspect of tourism has not really been exploited to the maximum and many potential cultural attractions are still off the grid in terms of recognition, one of them is Remileke festival. Participant observation was used to obtain key information about Remileke festival and its cultural attachment. Thus, this paper vividly sought to unveil the cultural significance of Remileke festival and its subsequent contribution to the development of the nation at large.
- ItemGUEST PERCEPTION OF SERVICE QUALITY IN SELECTED HOTELS IN ILORIN SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ILORIN, NIGERIA(EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY JOURNAL OF RESEARCH, 2024-04-21) BASHIRU ADEKUNLEGuest perception of service quality refers to how customers or visitors perceive the level of service they receive from a business or organization. It encompasses their subjective evaluation of various aspects such as responsiveness, reliability, empathy, assurance and tangibles. This study was conducted on Guest satisfaction of service quality in selected hotels in Ilorin South Local Government. The population of the study was based on Guest in selected hotels in Ilorin South Local Government. The study used twenty (20) research questions and a table of research advisor was used to get the sample size. The study adopts a descriptive survey. Questionnaire was used to collect data and the data collected from the study were analyzed using (SPSS), frequency table and percentage. The research has been based on objective identification of facts in order to be systematic in fulfilling the objectives of the research work. Findings shows that positive perception often lead to customer satisfaction and loyalty while negative perceptions can result in dissatisfaction and potential loss of business. Understanding and managing guest perceptions is crucial for hotel business aiming to deliver high-quality services and enhance overall customer experience. The adoption, practice, and continuous upgrade of service quality is very fundamental to improving customer and guest satisfaction in selected Hotels in Ilorin South Local Government.
- ItemPrevailing Barriers And Benefits In Running A Food-Service Business As Perceived By Operators In Ilorin Metropolis(Researchjournali’s Journal of Hospitality Tourism, 2020-01-20) BASHIRU ADEKUNLEBearing in mind that the barriers to and benefits from food-service businesses from two different geographical locations vary, it is important for an average food-service business operator to have a detailed knowledge of his/her immediate business environment. To make new entrants, existing and stakeholders’ in the business of food-service aware of the barriers and benefits in the running of food-service business in Ilorin metropolis, this quantitative study developed a questionnaire through Delphi techniques and administer same thorough census sampling technique to 71 respondents. Findings show that difficulty in getting start-up capital, competition from other food-service outlets, drops in sales, incessant increase in the prices of raw food commodity, and government levies are the topmost barriers of running food-service businesses in the study area. On perceived benefits, getting loans from financial institutions/investors, a profit yielding venture, a source of employment for owners, business expansion/diversification, and creates wealth for owners’ and family. The respondents’ are similar in their responses despite variations in their demographic characteristics as the two null hypotheses formulated, and tested at 0.05 level of significance was retained. The study recommends that this study should be replicated in major cities across Nigeria and findings made public to the government for action.
- ItemREVIEW : VALUES OF ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE SITES IN TOURISM INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA O(INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF EDUCATION, HUMANITIES AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH, JUNE2020 VOLUME 10 NO 1, 2022-06-06) BASHIRU ADEKUNLEThe tourism product has been described as the amalgam of all activities, involved in by a tourist in the process of his journey. A “Tourist Package” includes attractions, facilities, transportation etc. The aims of this review are, first, to investigate the potentials of architectural heritage in the context of tourism destination development, secondly, to appraise the outcome of preservation and its implications for tourism. The review is an effort to explore and understand the interrelationships between tourism and architectural heritage sites through tourist image and perception. A mixed research method is utilized to gauge tourists' image/perception of heritage resources, and impact. Findings revealed that architectural heritage resources have the most appeal to tourists. The study to date demonstrates the architectural value and tourist and preservation potential of the buildings observed.

The Hospitality and Tourism industry is a large and complex industry that is of an enormous economic importance to Nigeria.With the national plans of economy diversification in mind, this paper aims to discuss the impact of practical courses on students’ learning by taking the idea of tourism and hospitality industry as a practical oriented discipline. This paper also examines study of tourism and hospitality in Nigerian universities and other higher institutions of learning,the universities studying tourism and hospitality, the problems these universities are facing, the recommendations and the importance of practical training to the students. Data concerning this research was gotten from secondary sources,such as journals and internet. Practical courses are the hands-on activities by which students learn how to deal with the tasks in real workplace. Practical activities related to the application of knowledge would provide the opportunity of first-hand learning for students. Practical programs are considered essential in universities and institutions specialized in tourism and hospitality studies. .
