- ItemAssessment of User Satisfaction with Library Services at Kwara State University Library, Nigeria.(DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska - Lincoln, 2021) Abdrahman .A. MOUSTAPHA (CLN/NLA)The study defined user satisfaction as an evaluation of a service in terms of whether that service met their needs and expectations. The aim of the study was to evaluate the services and information resources provided by the Kwara State University Library and to see if users are satisfied with them. The library plays an important supporting role in any university. They provide the information that users need. The study mainly focused on the following problem areas; the type of services requested by users, the adequacy of information resources and the satisfaction of users with the services they receive. Three hundred and fifty (350) questionnaires were distributed to undergraduates and faculty members. Out of (350) questionnaires issued, (256) were received, resulting in a response rate of (73%). Microsoft Excel was used to analyze the collected data. It has been discovered that users benefit greatly from the library, its services and resources. Here are the main findings: users visit the library frequently, makes use of books, satisfaction with library opening hours, registration process and staff. He drew attention to the fact that there are some areas that need attention such as increasing collections of books and magazines, including photocopy machine into library service, improving internet service, increasing library working hours, and improving services from library staff. The study therefore recommends: increasing book and magazine collections, improving internet facility and including photocopying service, increasing library working hours and training staff to maintain a high level of user satisfaction.
- ItemAWARENESS AND USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA: A STUDY OF ICT STUDENTS AT KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, NIGERIA(DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska - Lincoln, 2022) Abdrahman .A. MOUSTAPHA (CLN/NLA)The use of social networks among students at higher institutions has become popular and is widely celebrated amid criticism. This is because these social networks are changing the way people communicate, interact, and socialize. The purpose of this paper is to explore students' awareness and use of social media: a study of ICT students at Kwara State University, Nigeria. This study used a survey research method. The respondents were students’ faculty of information and communication technology, and the results reveal that the majority of respondents (91.4%) are familiar with social networks, have access to the Internet, and regularly use mobile phones for social networking. Less than half (8.6%) of them speak and share information on social media. While results also show that participants intentionally use social networks for academic purposes, self-expression, and to establish global friendships,
- ItemSecurity of Information Resources in Academic Libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria(DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska - Lincoln, 2022) Abdrahman .A. MOUSTAPHA (CLN/NLA)This study was on the security of information resources in academic libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria. Academic libraries in Kwara State include both private and public institutions. The libraries were predominantly selected for academic purposes, such as Kwara State University, University of Ilorin, Al-Hikmah University, and Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin. Four research questions and four corresponding objectives of the study were framed. The case study design was approved for research. Targeted sampling was used to select 25 respondents from a pool of 115 professionals in all four academic libraries in Kwara State. Semi-structured interview guides were used to collect data from respondents, while field observation guides were used to record data about the participants' observations. Individual interview guides and field observation guides were used to collect data, which was then presented and analyzed qualitatively. The steps involved in conducting the analyses were: documentation; conceptualization; coding and classification; examination of relationships and data presentation; and documentation of conclusions. The results revealed that common methods of maintaining information resources in academic libraries in Kwara State included reforms, connectivity, and environmental control, while digitization and migration were not adopted. It also showed that periodic random checks of users and staff, scheduled patrols, and verification of users' identities were all in use.
- ItemTangible Impact of Literacy in Libraries and Information Undergraduate Academic Performance Skills Students at Kwara State University, Nigeria(DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska - Lincoln, 2023) Abdrahman .A. MOUSTAPHA (CLN/NLA)PURPOSE: The paper examined the effect of library skills and literacy on the academic performance of undergraduate students at Kwara State University, Nigeria. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY: A descriptive survey method and random sampling techniques were used with 150 randomly selected students for the research. A self-designed questionnaire was used to elicit responses from the respondents, and a simple percentage ratio was adapted for data analysis. Findings: The result shows that most of the students do not have access to literacy facilities. It reveals a lack of application skills by the majority but shows the positive impact of information literacy on students' academic performance. The results show that 70% of the undergraduate students used their Smartphone’s, while 30% did not use smart phones as a kind of information literacy facility for their academic performance. 93% used the Internet as the highest level of access for reading and writing skills, more than any other access window available. The results also showed that 70% said that information literacy skills can help beat the time, while 30% said no. Again, 74% said frequent power outages led to current literacy challenges. Authenticity and Value: It is recommended, among other things, that undergraduates register formally with the main library for better academic learning and achievement; The management of the university shall offer a compulsory and general course of study on information literacy to enable prospective graduates to acquire reading and writing skills for research, projects, and further studies; Frequent capacity building and training in information literacy skills should be organized for staff, undergraduates, and postgraduate students. Librarians must devise means of reaching out to students in order to enhance the research process, maximize students' academic performance, and so on.
- ItemUsers' Perception and Utilization of Serial Resources in the Academic Library, Kwara State University, Nigeria(DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska - Lincoln, 2022) Abdrahman .A. MOUSTAPHA (CLN/NLA)Investigative research, focused on users' perception and use of serial materials, was conducted in academic libraries at Kwara State University library, Nigeria. The study population consisted of users in the respective faculties. A stratified random sampling method was used to select the sample. A questionnaire dealing with users' perception and use of serial materials was conducted on 4500 users registered in the Kwara State University library. The collected data was analyzed mainly by frequency counts and simple percentages. Study results indicate that university users occasionally use serial materials. The majority of users are somewhat satisfied with the reference materials available in the library. The paper concluded that the serials of materials should be easily accessible to users so that they are well prepared to use them.
- ItemUtilization of Electronic Resources by Library Users In Kwara State University, Nigeria(International Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research Volume 12, Issue 3, March-2021, 2021) Abdrahman .A. MOUSTAPHA (CLN/NLA)This study investigated utilization of electronic resources by the users in the Kwara State University Library, Nigeria. Cross-sectional survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of 3,670 registered users with the library and a sample of 367 was selected using simple random sampling technique. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. 367 copies of the questionnaire were administered while 345 were returned which used for the study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the research questions. The findings showed that all the types of electronic resources listed in the study are available with electronic books having the highest responses. The study found out that there is no significant difference in the extent to which users utilize ERs. The study recommended among others that since electronic books are available in the university library, the University library management should intensify the availability of other types especially CD-ROMs and DVD by supplying more.
