Every aspect of human life is regulated by the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS). This paper focuses on the teachings of Islam on reproductive control as «vocated in the contemporary world. The objective is to analyse the relevant injunctions from the two major sources and present them in a systematic way in order to assess the legality of such biotechnical measures based on the Shariah. The position of the writer is that Muslims may practice birth control especially in the form of azl but in choosing any of the reversible methods caution should be taken so that the method will not be hazardous to their health. The author also submits that Muslim couples should not use any of the irreversible methods because they contradict the objectives of Islam in the institution of marriage.
