dc.description.abstract | This paper examines the historical impact and significance of the present Malete District, which is otherwise regarded in the history as the old-Oyo empire, on the development and expansion of Islam in llorin metropolis, which is one of the key towns in Yoruba land, and a gateway to the north and south of Nigeria. The historical relationship of the two sides is believed to have contributed immensely to the present situation of Islam in Yoruba land. Its critical observation will serve as the key of understanding to most of the hidden facts about the origin and development of Islam both a Ilorin and the entire Yoruba land. The paper further examines the personality of Sheikh 'Alimi, the leader of Islamic revolution in Ilorin in particular and Yoruba land in general, in connection with his missionary aspiration in Malete district and his final residence in Ilorin township. | |
