dc.description.abstract | The study examined leveraging high-end technologies for quality library services in Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to identify the type of high-end technologies available in Nigerian University Libraries; ascertain if Nigeria University Libraries have the requirements for high-end technologies; determine if Nigerian University Libraries use high-end technologies for service delivery, and identify the benefits of using high-end technologies for service delivery in Nigerian University Libraries. The study adopted survey design, and the population comprised of 40 professional librarians in three university libraries in Kwara State. A self-designed questionnaire was used for data collection, while data were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentage. Findings of the study revealed the available high-end technologies to include RFID, IoT, Cloud Computing, Institutional Repository, WebOPAC and WEB 2.0/3.0, the study also revealed that the aforementioned high-end technologies are used for service delivery. The study recommended that university library management should provide adequate funding, thereby formulating policies addressing the installation and integration of high-end technologies in libraries; university libraries should formulate policies and procedures which will state the requirements and conditions of high-end technologies; constant user education should be provided on how to effectively and efficiently make use of high-end technologies for quality library service, librarians should as well be trained and retrained on how to make good use of these technologies to improve existing library services; and that academic management should invest more in the library so that new technological facilities would be procured, in order to have a positive impact on how information services are delivered to the public. | |
