dc.description.abstractThe spread of Islam to Ghana cannot be discussed without due reference to the spread of the faith in what is now . known as West Africa. The people of West Africa had their first contact with Islam between seventeenth and eighteenth century and since then, the Muslims in the West Africa sub-region have been actively involved in establishing an Islamic country following the model of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The main channel of contact was through trade, particularly the gold transaction. In this paper, an attempt is made to discuss the factors influencing the spread of Islam in Ghana. Methodology relies solely on bibliographic appraisal of such studies that are related to this study. The paper begins with the introduction on the advent of Islam in Ghana. This is followed by the factors that led to the spread of Islam in Ghana, such as trade, Hajj patronage, Arabs and Arab Missions, Modern Arabic Schools and Non-Governmental Organisations. Others are youth and women organisations, as well as contact with Middle Eastern Organisations. The paper concludes by making recommendations on how Muslim should jointly intensify their efforts towards additional spread of Islam and Islamic scholarship in Ghana, while issues of non-indigene should not be a hindrance to the progress of Islam in the country
