Abstract
Da'wah (preaching) as a religious duty been
carried out by the messengers of Allah from earliest time and from one
generation to the other for human admonition, has Da'wah occupies a
special place in Islam and Ilorin Emirate cultures from the very outset and
it has been one of the most effective instruments used by the Ulama to
spread Islamic religion, its etiquette and Islamic scholarship particularly
throughout Yoruba land till date. Da'wah in Ilorin features in virtually all
aspects of the activities of the Muslim community such as, naming and
wedding ceremonies, burial rites, launching and Maulud Nabiy as well as
during the month of Ramadan in virtually all the nooks and crannies of
Ilorin Emirate. At all times, Da'wah in Ilorin attracts large audience from
far and near, depending on the popularity and the knowledge of the
concerns Ulama, while messages that come out of the Da'wah often had
far reaching effect on the people, especially among the youth who want to
put into practical use some of the lessons learnt. In lieu of the foregoing,
drastic step needs to be taken to arrest the growing indoctrination going
on in the Emirate through Da'wah activities orchestrated by some radical
clerics. These steps maybe sufficient reduce the tendency of Ilorin joining
the cities battling with insurgency, banditry, headers- farmer's crisis in
Nigeria.
