Abstract
The chapter examines the history of migration, settlement pattern and transformation of Ilorin. The history of migration in particular is analysed under two broad periods, namely the "Pre-Islamic Period" (including the ancient, prehistoric era) up to c.1817, and the "Islamic Period", starting from the settlement of Shaikh Alimiat Ilorin in c.1817 through c.1823 when the emirate was established to the present period. Various sources and accounts on the origin of Ilorin, migration, and developments in Ilorin history are analysed and interpreted.
