- ItemA SURVEY OF PROBLEMS HINDERING THE OPERATION OF OPEN UNIVERSITY SYSTEM IN OYO AND KWARA STATES, NIGERIA(Academic Research International, 2011) Olayiwola Olorisade; Afolabi S.O.; Abdulkareem A.Y.National Open University which was formally established in Nigeria by Act 25 of 1983 aimed at bridging the existing gap between the education of male and female, able and disabled, young and old. and nomads in the society. This study focused on problems facing the National Open University in Nigeria as perceived by facilitators and students in Kwara and Oyo States Stratified random sampling method was used to select 40 facilitators and 50 students from Kwara and Oyo State study centers A researchers' designed questionnaire was used for data collection It was validated and its reliability co- efficient, determined through test-retest method, was found to be 0.76. Two research questions were answered and two research hypotheses were tested using percentage and chi-square statistics respectively. The findings of the study revealed lack of standard classroom, inadequate supply of electricity and inadequate funding The study also showed that there is no significant difference between facilitators and students' perception of the problems associated with resource allocation and organization of the programme It was therefore, recommended among others that course materials, computer-based media and other facilities should be made available at all study centers for students use. Also, adequate funding and uninterrupted academic calendar of the University should be ensured while internet services should be provided at all study centers
- ItemApplication of Research Findings to Classroom Teaching and Learning in Selected Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.(Journal of Arts, Science and Technology, University of Technology, Jamaica, 2020) Olayiwola OlorisadeThe need to improve the quality of tertiary institutions graduates through the application of research findings for classroom teaching and learning prompted this study, which investigated the application of research findings to classroom teaching and learning in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The study population consists of all academic staff members in Nigerian tertiary institutions. However, through the use of a multi-stage sampling procedure, a total of 305 respondents were sampled from three geo-political zones of Nigeria (North-Central, South-West, & South-East). Data were collected through the use of a questionnaire tagged "Research and Publications Effectiveness Questionnaire" (RPEQ). Descriptive statistics were used to answer the questions raised, while the Pearson Product Moment Correlation was . employed to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The study found that academic staff research/publications effectiveness was low; while the application of research findings in classroom teaching was high, and students' responsiveness was also high when research findings were applied to classroom situations. It was recommended that successful senior academic researchers be made to mentor upcoming academics, and these being academic researchers should be further encouraged to apply research findings to enrich their classroom teaching. Adjunct staff with field experiences should also be encouraged to deploy the same towards adequately preparing students for the world of work.

- ItemECONOMY OF SIZE IN KWARA STATE COLLEGES OF EDUCATION(Nigerian Journal of Sociology of Education (NJSE), University of Ilorin, 2001) Olayiwola OlorisadeThis research aims at exploring ways by which teacher production can be increased at reduced cost in Kwara State College of Education. The population of this study includes all teacher-training institutions at the post-secondary level in Kwara State, and the basic instrument used is the State of the College of Education Questionnaire (SCEQ). The study determined the average unit-cost of training students in Kwara State Colleges of Education; and using Scheffe's method of multiple comparison to determine relationships, it was established that there was a significant relationship between teacher production, average performances and funding. Therefore to enhance greater efficiency to improve the viability of these Colleges and to overcome the inadequacies o scattered Colleges in Kwara State, this study suggests the adoption of "economy of size"

The study was prompted by the need to make entrepreneurship training more meaningful, result oriented and focused on children' participation, so that their interest in whatever venture they delve into is sustained. The study considered the concept of entrepreneurship, and importance of entrepreneurship. It also examines the roles of parents at encouraging children's entrepreneurial attitude. The paper concludes by stating the implications of early entrepreneurship in children. Some of the basic roles of parents towards encouraging entrepreneurial attitude in children includes; helping them to identify their areas of interest, providing encouragement to explore, giving the required support for children to venture into profitable and productive activities. This is expected to engage youth in worthwhile activities and reduce unemployment, create jobs, thereby reducing youth engagement in vices.

- ItemEnhancing Students' Work Experience Through the Engagement of Small and Medium Enterprises(Journal of Arts, Science and Technology, 2022) Olayiwola Olorisade; Afolabi S.O.This paper unveiled the major challenges being faced by Nigerian students during their engagement in Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). It explores a better way of improving students' engagement in the Work Experience Scheme by involving small and medium enterprises to provide entrepreneurial exposure and business mentorship. Although the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) has offered many Nigerian students the required exposure to practical work experience, some have not benefited from it. Some of the reasons for this include the increased student population in Nigerian tertiary institutions, the inability of industries to absorb all students due to limited spaces, and the inability to pay the required stipend. Other problems include the wrong placement of students for the exercise. This paper proffered strategies for providing a more robust programme of engagement that would promote entrepreneurial spirit and skills required by students to establish personal ventures and succeed at it at the end of their academic pursuit. The programme will provide opportunities to capture all that the students are required to go for SIWES in a more appropriate setting and provide rich collaboration between Small and Medium Enterprises (SME'S) and educational institutions in Nigeria.

The paper is an attempt to reveal the inhibiting factors towards the accomplishment of the Millennium Development Goal on Universal Basic Education programme. The study employed the descriptive research design, while data were obtained through field assessment. The research revealed that the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal on Universal Basic Education is bedeviled with factors that are government related, school, parent, teacher and also pupil related. Therefore, to build a strong and virile nation, the nation's universal basic education scheme requires a more determined approach.

- ItemINFLUENCE OF MANAGERIAL SKILLS OF MIDDLE-LEVEL MANAGERS ON ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, IN NIGERIAN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION(Academic Research International, 2011) Olayiwola OlorisadeThis paper investigated the influence of the managerial skills of middlelevel managers on organizational effectiveness in Colleges of Education in South Western Nigeria, a player in global education. The population of the study consisted of deans, heads of department, and academic staff members of nine Colleges of Education, while the sample consisted of 461 academic staff members randomly sampled from the Colleges. The instrument used was the questionnaire tagged Managerial Skills, Staff Morale and Work Effectiveness Questionnaire (MSSMAWEQ). Descriptive statistics, simple regression analysis and Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics were used to test the hypotheses. The study revealed that middle-level managers demonstrated requisite managerial skills in the Colleges of Education. It was also found that the managerial skills of middle-level managers had a very low influence on academic staff research/publications effectiveness and on community service effectiveness. Further still, it was established that there was no significant relationship between managerial skills of middle-level managers and students academic performance. The paper advised managers to improve on their decision-making and interpersonal skills, as they were the least demonstrated. It called for the review of promotion conditionality in these Colleges; and also advised that academic staff of these Colleges be allowed to actually go on their annual leave.
- ItemINFLUENCE OF PRINCIPAL/TEACHERS’ RELATIONS AND SUOERVISORY PRACTICES ON TEACHERS JOB PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF EDU LGA OF KWARA STATE(Federal University of Dutsin-ma Journal of Educational Management (FUDMAJEM), 2024) Olayiwola OlorisadeThe study examined influence of principal/teachers' relations and supervisory practices on teachers job performance in secondary school in Edu LGA of Kwara State. It adopted descriptive survey design, with a sample of 140 teachers using stratified sampling technique. A researcher-designed questionnaire was used to collect data. It was validated, with reliability coefficient of 78. Two research questions were raised and two research hypotheses formulated to guide the study. Data analysis was carried out using mean and standard deviation, while linear regression was used to test the hypotheses. Findings of the study revealed low principal/teachers' relations (mean = 1.94) and low supervisory practices in schools (Mean = 1.92); while principal/teachers' relations significantly influenced teachers' joh performance (F(96) 333, P<0.05) and principals supervisory practices also influenced teachers' job performance in schools (F/96) 912, P<0.05). It was concluded that principal/teachers relations and supervisory practices influenced teachers' job performances in the schools. It is recommended that Ministry of Education should expose principals to staff relations and supervisory practices. Regular training on human relations and supervisory activities should be provided by Universities and Colleges of Education, to improve principals' relations with staff. and their supervisory practices for the enhancement of teachers' job performances in schools.
- ItemINFLUENCE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES ON TEACHERS'EFFECTIVENESS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS(Journal of Current Research in Education, 2023) Olayiwola Olorisade; Anastasia A. BadmusThe subject of school facilities has received great attention from the public as well as educators in recent times. The study examined the perceived influence of school facilities on teachers' effectiveness in secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of this study was 2,032 comprised of 173 principals from Public and Private schools respectively, and 1,859 teachers comprised from Public and Private Senior Secondary Schools respectively in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State of which 80 Principals and 467 teachers from public and private schools were randomly sampled. A 70-item self-designed questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection based on 4-point Likert rating scale. Mean ratings and standard deviation were the statistical tools used for data analysis. Means of 2.50 and above were accepted for the research questions. Findings of the study revealed that Library facilities were under-utilized for teaching and learning in secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis (mean = 1.72, SD = 0.89); Science laboratory facilities were under-utilized for teaching and learning in secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis (mean = 1.72, SD = 0.89); ICT facilities were underutilized for teaching and learning in Secondary Schools in Ilorin metropolis (mean = 1.38, SD = 0.55); and that, School facilities have significant influence on teachers' effectiveness in secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis (mean = 3.05, SD = 0.44). From the findings, it could be concluded that, Books and maps which are library facilities; Pipettes, centrifuges, Bunsen burner and stirrer which are science laboratory, computer which are ICT facilities, together with, methodology in teaching, the instructional material, assignment, assessment of the students, discipline, classroom instructional climate, content of knowledge, student's perception of teacher's effectiveness, influence of teachers on students and professional behavior of teachers contribute positively to teachers' effectiveness in secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis. Based on the conclusion it was recommended that the Government should earmark a substantial amount of money (that is from the national budget) for the provision of needed facilities in the schools. There should be an adequate and prompt supply of infrastructural facilities into all secondary schools. Also, proper, and timely maintenance of these facilities are essential. Most of the facilities available are in a poor state of disrepair. Hence, educational planners and school leaders should carry out extensive repairs, renovation, retrofitting and replacement of some major component.
- ItemInfluence of Teacher Characteristics On Emotional Intelligence In Secondary Schools In Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria(Benin Journal of Educational Studies (BJES), University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, 2019) Olayiwola OlorisadeThe study investigated the influence of secondary school teacher qualification, experience, gender, marital status and rank on emotional intelligence in selected secondary schools in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The research was prompted by the significance of emotional intelligence on teachers’ professional success and its consequent effects on institutional performance. Simple random sampling technique was adopted to select 62 teachers from six secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis. Descriptive research design was used. The ‘Teachers Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire’(TEIQ) was administered on respondents to collect relevant data. Simple percentages and t-test statistical tools were used to test the questions and hypotheses. The study revealed that there were differences in the emotional intelligence of teachers based on academic qualifications, years of work experience, gender, rank and marital status. It also revealed that emotional intelligence of teachers in public schools in Ilorin metropolis is generally high. Based on the findings, it was recommended that younger teachers should be mentored by those with longer years of work experience. Universities should develop online emotional intelligence measurement tools to enable teachers determine areas of strengths and weaknesses and also access training tools, to shore up their emotional intelligence. This is expected to result in improved institutional performance.
- ItemIntitutional Administration and The Rule of Law(Kwara State University Press and Publishing, 2024) Olayiwola OlorisadeInstitutional administration is the act of managing activities in institutions of learning, towards achieving educational goals; while rule of law is considered as fundamental concepts that underpins the functioning of democratic institutions, which promotes just and equitable society. This paper reveals that the process involves the coordination of resources, with the human resource being the most complex, requiring administrators to motivate and relate with them impartially by following due process and ensuring their right to fair treatment. The paper considered the components of effective institutional administration to include; skill demonstration, clear rules and regulations, transparency, accountability and professionalism. It further considered the elements of the rule of law to encompass legal certainty, accountability, transparency, equalisation of treatment, and effective dispute resolution mechanism. The experience during the tenure of late Professor M.M. Akanbi showcased an administrator, who was transparent, constantly emphasising obedience to institutional regulations, frowned at molestation of staff and students by anyone, and engaged institutional community members in decision making and in the formulation of new regulations. The late Vice-Chancellor showed himself a good listener, team player and a leader, who does not muzzle staff and students. He demonstrated accountability, transparency, professionalism in handling administrative tasks, and he did not compromise on matters of law, as he promoted an institution, where laws are respected, rights protected and justice served to all members of the KWASU community.
- ItemManaging Schools In Post-COVID Era Implications For Institutional Managers In Nigerian Schools(International Journal of Educational Management, University of Ilorin, 2022) Olayiwola OlorisadeThis paper focused on the role expected of institutional managers in driving the new normal, forced on institutions by the occurrence of COVID-19 that disrupted educational activities and institutional programmes. This resulted in the dual mode of teaching, toward achieving the set goals of education. The paper observed some challenges of the new approach to teaching, to include teachers' poor preparation, inadequate planning, lack of facilities, and financial constraints among others. It suggested exposure of teachers to training, institutional collaboration with online learning technology and service providers, as well as constituting technical committee of experts to ensure flexibility of lessons, in driving the new normal towards the achievement of educational objectives.
- ItemParental influences on the voluntary association affiliations of Kwara State College of Education, Oro students(African Journal of Educational Studies(AJES), 2005) Olayiwola OlorisadeThis paper explores the importance of the relationships between parents and children in determining the voluntary association affiliations of Kwara State College of Education students. The population of the study included all regular NCE students of the College of Education, Oro, while the sample consisted of 93 NCE II and III students from twenty registered clubs, societies and associations using stratified sampling technique, and the instrument used was the Questionnaire on Parents and Students Interest in Voluntary Association Affiliations [QUPSIVAA). The study established a relationship between parental influence and students affiliations to voluntary associations, and that parental encouragement has greater influence than parental affiliations to associations. Further still it was found that affiliations was related to the provision of social/welfare service and the development of managerial ability. The paper therefore advised parents to be worthy examples who should give quality leadership and they should help channel the energies of their wards to worthwhile associations.
- ItemParental roles in fostering entreprenerial mindset in Nigerian children(International Journal of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management (IJEIM), Kwara State University Malete, 2016) Olayiwola Olorisade; Alege B.ANigeria is plagued with poverty, unemployment and poor response of youth to entrepreneurship. Government at all levels had employed varying measures to reduce unemployment and promote youth involvement in entrepreneurship; but this had yielded little result due to the lateness in intervention and the non-consideration of children's interest in entrepreneurial engagement. This paper is a descriptive study aimed at enhancing parental roles towards developing entrepreneurial mindset in children. Using stratified random sampling technique, 64 parents (literate and illiterate) were sampled from rural and urban areas of Kwara State. The instrument used was a questionnaire developed by the researchers, administered on parents to elicit their opinions and involvement at encouraging children entrepreneurial activities. The reliability coefficient was 62. Simple percentage was used to determine the level of parental involvement in children's entrepreneurial activities; while t-test statistics was used to analyze the three hypotheses raised. The findings revealed a high level of parental involvement in children entrepreneurial activities; a significant difference between fathers' and mothers' involvement; and between rural and urban parents' involvement in children's entrepreneurial activities. The paper recommended, among others, that parents must expose children to stimulating environment and ensure that children are enrolled for vocational training of their choice.
- ItemPoverty Alleviation Of Teachers As A Tool For Implementing Basic Education Scheme In Nigeria(Nigerian Journal of Educational Administration and Planning, 2008) Olayiwola Olorisade; Afolabi S.O.For any policy on education to achieve its basic objective, attention must be paid to teachers' welfare since no education can rise above the quality of its teacher. The crux of this paper is how teacher poverty can be alleviated with a view to achieving Universal Basic Education in Nigeria. The paper unveiled the poverty status of teachers in Nigeria and some West African countries. It equally showed that the poverty status of the teachers is manifested in the continued struggle for a better condition of service over the years. However, the paper considered the roles been played by National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategies (NEEDS) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGS) which are United Nation's initiative in the year 2000. T-test statistics was used to determine the earning differential of ten randomly selected teachers with Ph.D and medical doctors in Kwara State. The paper, therefore, suggested strict adherence to UNESCO Standard of fixing teachers' salaries and allowances, Parity in salary structure of teachers at all level of education and across all professions depending on qualification possessed, periodic review of teachers' salaries and establishment of a new national teachers taskforce.
- ItemPre-Primary School Teachers' and Classroom Characteristics Towards The Attainment of the Objectives of Policy Documents in Early Childhood Education in North Central, Nigeria(International Journal of Academic Pedagogical Research (IJAPR), 2022) Olayiwola Olorisade; Sulyman H.T.; Odinko M.N.; Saadu U.T.Pre-primary education is adjudged the best investment any country can offer the young generation. Hence, the study, investigated exploration of pre-primary school teachers' and classroom characteristics towards the attainment of the objectives of policy documents in early childhood education in north central, Nigeria. The descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The sample consisted of 81 pre-primary schools. Multi-stage sampling was used to select the sample. Researcher-designed questionnaires were used to elicit information. Pre-primary school Teacher Characteristics Questionnaire (PTCQ), and Pre-primary school Classroom Characteristics Checklist (PCCC) all the instruments and were subjected to face and content validation. The reliabilities of the instruments were established using PPMC; the result yielded 0.91, and 0.96 respectively. Two research questions were generated and answered. Descriptive statistics of frequency, mean, and percentage were used to answer the research questions. The findings indicated that teachers with NCE qualification were more in number, female teachers were more in number than male teachers. Also, the groups chosen by pupils' were predominant in the classroom. The grid was the most used seating arrangement in some pre-primary school, the most available learning corner in most pre-primary school classrooms was play corner. It was recommended that the bodies in charge of granting approval for the establishment of pre-primary schools across the country should be proactive and be more meticulous in following the minimum standards.
