Influence of Social Media on the Perceived Academic Performance of Undergraduate Students in Al-Hikmah University, Kwara State, Nigeria
(2021-12) Florence Olabisi Ajani; Mojisola Omowumi Odewole
This study examined influence of social media on the perceived academic performance of undergraduate students in Al-hikmah University, Kwara State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted and a sample of 378 students was selected across the seven faculties that make up Al-hikmah University using multi-stage sampling technique. A self-developed questionnaire was used to collect data from 378 respondents, out of which 342 copies of the questionnaire were returned. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze the data collected for the four research questions while PPMC was used to test the hypothesis of the study. The study found that WhatsApp; Facebook; YouTube; Twitter; and Instagram are the social media that majority of the respondents used. Also, majority of them spent 4-5 hours on social media per day. The study also showed that majority of the respondents use social media for entertainment; to make new friends; to learn new things; and for research purpose. It was further confirmed that social media has negative effect on the perceived academic performance of the respondents. The result established that there is a significant relationship between the hours spent on social media and perceived academic performance of undergraduate students. The study recommends that since there are some dangerous communities prevailing on the internet, there should be effective technical monitoring while students are browsing these sites. Also, university management should organize seminars that will help the students to know how to use the social media in an ethical way so as to improve their academic performance

Infopreneurship and Technopreneurship Readiness for Job Creation Among Nigerian Library and Information Science Graduates
(2024) Abdulakeem Sodeeq Sulyman; Florence Olabisi Ajani; Adetoun Omolola Idowu; Ibrahim Bamidele Badmus
It has been established in studies that infopreneurship and technopreneurship are potent avenues for job creation in the 21st century. This study explores infopreneurship and technopreneurship readiness for job creation among Nigerian Library and Information Science (LIS) graduates. It raises three objectives and corresponding questions. This study uses a descriptive survey design. The population of the study consists of 268 LIS graduates who were willing to participate by completing a questionnaire designed using Google Forms, which was distributed through various WhatsApp platforms for librarians. Data obtained were analyzed using tables, frequency counts, percentages, and means (????̅). Findings revealed that respondents are highly ready to create jobs through research services and current awareness services (????̅ = 3.43), as well as information repackaging (????̅ = 3.36). Similarly, the respondents indicated a high readiness to create jobs through digital publishing (????̅= 3.24), social media management (????̅ = 3.16), and operating cyber cafés (????̅= 3.00). Barriers to the respondents’ readiness include poor internet bandwidth (????̅= 3.49), the unstable cost of living (????̅ = 3.48), inadequate sources of capital (????̅ = 3.46), unfavorable government policies (????̅= 3.40), and insufficient local technological industries that could be leveraged for technopreneurship (????̅= 3.37). This study concludes that Nigerian LIS graduates are highly ready to create jobs through infopreneurship and technopreneurship. The study recommends that Nigerian ministries, bodies, and agencies, such as the Ministry of Digital Economy, Information, the Nigerian Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), prioritize training for both practicing and potential info/technopreneurs.

(2013-12) Oyintola Isiaka Amusa; Abdusalaam A. Salman; Florence Olabisi Ajani
Abstract This study adopted survey method to investigate the knowledge and use of electronic information resources (EIR) among the academic staff in animal health, animal production, and veterinary medicine in Nigeria. These areas of knowledge are interwoven as they all deal with animal reproduction and wellbeing. Two hundred and seventy-seven (277) lecturers responded to the questionnaire from four universities, FUNAAB, UI, UNILORIN, and OOU. Analysis of data revealed that the lecturers are quite knowledgeable of electronic resources and they use them for teaching, research and professional purposes; the respondents do not know the electronic resources subscribed to by their libraries among those they know and use; and their effective use of the resources is hampered by inadequate skill and knowledge of e-resources, power fluctuation, and slow internet access among others. The study in conclusion recommended adequate publicity for the library based e-resources; periodic training and retraining of users; regular subscription and updating of e-resources; provision of alternative power sources and; improvement in bandwidth subscriptions.

Perception of the use of card catalogue and online public access catalogue (OPAC) among undergraduates of Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria
(2021) Florence Olabisi Ajani; Yahaya Aliyu Ismaila
The purpose of this study was to identify the most employable and effective retrieval system between card catalogue and online public access catalogue (OPAC) among undergraduates of Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria. Three research questions were raised in order to find out the perception of the use of card catalogue and online public access catalogue (OPAC) among undergraduates of Kwara State University. The study included a sample size of 360 students who were selected at random from the university’s seven faculties. Data was obtained through administered questionnaires and the data was evaluated using descriptive statistics. The outcome of the research indicated that majority of the undergraduates were aware of the OPAC and were of the opinion that it is more current and accessible anywhere within and outside the university environment than the card catalogue that requires users to visit the library before it can be access. Many of the respondents preferred online public access catalogue to the card catalogue due to its flexibility, less time consuming, and because it provides easier reference point. It is advisable for the university library to mount more OPAC stands for the undergraduates and other users of the library.
