Interpersonal communication and leadership are inter-related concepts that occur among individuals, groups and organisations. In fact, interpersonal communication fosters positive relationships that help leaders make positive influence in their dealings with the led. The task for leaders in our world today is the ability to create an atmosphere that encourages collaboration, cooperation and co- creation. It is true that relationship building, mutual respect and understanding are achieved through communication; the absence of which often results in dissatisfaction, distrust, hostility and poor morale. It is against this backdrop that this paper examines the important role of Public Relations in leadership function, emphasising the need to employ the Frank Jefkin’s Transfer Process of Public Relations. In doing this, organisational leaders will succeed in creating an enabling environment for organisations to thrive through systematic and planned communication efforts. This therefore, will ensure valued communication in effort at influencing the various publics of the organisation.
