This study examined influence of social media on the perceived academic performance of undergraduate students in Al-hikmah University, Kwara State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted and a sample of 378 students was selected across the seven faculties that make up Al-hikmah University using multi-stage sampling technique. A self-developed questionnaire was used to collect data from 378 respondents, out of which 342 copies of the questionnaire were returned. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze the data collected for the four research questions while PPMC was used to test the hypothesis of the study. The study found that WhatsApp; Facebook; YouTube; Twitter; and Instagram are the social media that majority of the respondents used. Also, majority of them spent 4-5 hours on social media per day. The study also showed that majority of the respondents use social media for entertainment; to make new friends; to learn new things; and for research purpose. It was further confirmed that social media has negative effect on the perceived academic performance of the respondents. The result established that there is a significant relationship between the hours spent on social media and perceived academic performance of undergraduate students. The study recommends that since there are some dangerous communities prevailing on the internet, there should be effective technical monitoring while students are browsing these sites. Also, university management should organize seminars that will help the students to know how to use the social media in an ethical way so as to improve their academic performance
