Abstract
The Nigerian state has become a theatre of growing security challenges such as armed banditry, insurgency, farmer-harder and communal clashes with devastating consequences on human lives and economic activities. These challenges has however affected the terms of bilateral and multilateral relations with references to areas of Nigeria’s relations with countries of the world such as USA, Germany and China. Nigeria-China relations commenced on unofficial note with China’s presence at Nigeria’s independence celebration in 1960 and have improved with the establishment of Forum on China-African Cooperation (FOCAC). The forum has clearly defined areas of cooperation with the Continent of Africa such as infrastructural development, trade and investment, human capacity development (person-to-person exchange) and security cooperation. Given the forgoing position, this paper examines the issues in Nigeria-China security cooperation within the framework of FOCAC. Data was sources through Key informant Interview and secondary sources and subjected to thematic analysis. It was based on interdependence thesis developed by Keohane and Nye (1994).
