Strategies For Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in Libraries for Sustainable Community Development
(KWASU Journal of Information, Communication and Technology (KJICT.), 2023) Atanda Saliu SAMBO; Tunde Shamsudeen AJIBOLA; Ismaila Aliyu YAHAYA
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data (BD) have attracted global attention and inspired innovations in every field, including the library, as access to information has been affected by technological evolution. Compared to the developed world, libraries in developing countries need to maximise the amazing potential of AI and BD in their services. These powerful tools hold immense potential to revolutionise how libraries function and serve their patrons in various capacities, including leveraging user experience, smarter information retrieval, and streamlin ing operations. This paper explores the strategies for leveraging AI and BD in libraries for sustainable community development. It discusses the potential of AI and BD in libraries, their importance for sustainable development, the connection between AI and BD, and leveraging AI for enhanced library services. It also highlights the pros pects of AI and BD in libraries, strategies for integrating AI and big data in library services, and the challenges in leveraging AI and BD in libraries for sustainable community development. The study recommends, among others, that libraries should organise training for staff to stay relevant in the technology-driven era. It advocates the implementation of policies that would guide the application and use of AI and BD, as well as data protection. It recommends adequate funds to the library for AI and BD for competency and productivity
