    ASSESSMENT OF THE CHALLENGES FACING KWARA STATE COLLEGES OF EDUCATION, NIGERIA

    This study assessed the challenges facing assessment of the challenges facing Kwara State Colleges of Education, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive research design of survey type. All the three kwara State Colleges of Education in Ilorin, Lafiagi and Oro were purposively selected. Proportionate sampling technique was used toselect50%ofthelecturers in the institutions, that is, 202 out of the 404. Challenges Facing Kwara State Colleges of Education Questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. The percentage was used to answer the research question, t-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance statistics were used to analyse the data. The findings revealed that insufficient fund, strike actions, epileptic power supply, insufficient furniture, poor access to internet by lecturers, brain drain, dwindling students’ enrolment, insufficiency of current textbooks in the library, favouritism and/or nepotism in the of appointment lecturers and politicisation of the appointment of provosts were challenges facing kwara State Colleges of Education in the country. It was recommended that Kwara State government should be more committed to funding Colleges of Education in order to facilitate adequate provision of the furniture, internet services and current textbooks in the libraries and optimal motivation of lecturers in order to help the institutions achieve their stated goals effectively.
