The Impact of Islam on Nigerian Arabic Poetry
(JOURNAL OF ISLAMIC AND COMPARATIVE LAW The Journal of the Centre of Islamic Legal Studies, Institute of Administration Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, 2016) Musa Á.M. Abikan, Abmad, Muhammad Kamel and Aliyu, Muhammed Jamiu
The introduction of Arabic language as an academic discipline into the Nigerian educational curriculum was not accidental. It was in recognition of its significance as a language of Islam and diplomacy. Centuries before the advent of Europeans on Nigeria soil, Arabic had been used for religions, social and cultural purposes. In West Africa as a whole and Nigeria in particular, poetic themes in Arabic language have remained within the framework of the interest of Islamic religion.
