Despite the availability of the various robust environmental legislations in the country, attitude of government towards environmental right protection has been portrayed badly. To this end, this study assesses the attitude of government towards environmental right protection in Nigeria with reliance on the non-doctrinal method of legal research. Through the qualitative approach, the study focuses on environmental pollution issues in Nigeria, environmental right in Nigeria, and Government’s efforts and effectiveness of the existing mechanisms in the protection of the environment in Nigeria. The study samples the opinions of the relevant 32 stakeholders in the field of environmental laws and made succinct findings. The study finds that there exits environmental pollution issues in Nigeria and such existence has brought to fore the enormity of environmental pollution and its attendants impacts on the environment and the citizens at large; the right to a healthy environment is not adequately protected in Nigeria and there is need to protect the right in order to enhance environmental sustainability; and there exists negative attitudes of Government towards environmental right protection in Nigeria which has weakened the existing mechanisms in the management of environmental issues in Nigeria. The study suggests active involvement of the judiciary by way of judicial activism and attitudinal changes on the part of the Nigerian government
