- ItemBUSINESS EDUCATION LECTURERS’ AWARENESS AND UTILIZATION OF ELECTRONIC DATABASES FOR TEACHING AND RESEARCH IN UNIVERSITIES IN KWARA STATE(Business Education Department of Madonna University, Okija, 2019) Mamman, J.SThe study examined the awareness and utilization of electronic databases for teaching and research by business education lecturers in universities in Kwara State. The study sought answers to two research questions formulated to guide the study. The study design was a descriptive survey research. Thirty-one Business Education lecturers in universities that offered Business Education Programme in Kwara State formed the population for the study. Awareness and Utilization of Electronic Databases Questionnaire (AUEDQ) with Cronbach reliability of 0.86 was the instrument used for data collection. Mean, and standard deviation score was used to analyze the data to answer the research questions. The two hypotheses were tested with independent samples t-test at the 0,05 level of significance. The study found that Business Education lecturers’ extent of awareness and utilization of electronic databases for teaching and research was to a low extent; the study also found that there was no significant difference between the mean responses of male and female business education lecturers’ extent of awareness of electronic databases for teaching and research (t27 = 1.02, P=0.732). Based on the findings, the following are recommended among others; There is a need for University Librarians to give proper orientation to the Academic staff members of the University on how to access/use the databases subscribed to by the University. Where necessary training should be provided on a constant basis by the University Librarians to update the existing academic staff and orient the newly recruited staff
- ItemEntrepreneurship Education and Self-Employment Intention: The Case of Students in Kwara State Universities(Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI), Eldoret, Kenya, 2019) Mamman, J.SSelf-employment intention is crucial to the formation, growth and development of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship on the other hand is seen as the engine of economic growth and sustainable development of emerging economies like Nigeria. This study examined the impact of entrepreneurship education on self-employment intention among business education students in universities in Kwara State. The study answered two research questions and one null hypothesis was tested for the study. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised of 372 business education students from the three universities offering business education in Kwara State. The study was a census study. Entrepreneurship Education and Self-employment Intention Questionnaire (EESIQ) which was duly validated with a Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of 0.82 was used to gather data for the study. Three hundred and seventy two copies of the questionnaire were administered, and all were retrieved and used for the study. The data collected to answer the research the questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Linear regression (least square regression) statistics was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that students have a strong positive intention for self-employment, and entrepreneurship education has a significant positive impact on students’ self-employment intention for sustainable development (B = 1.78; t(370) = 9.257, P = 0.000). Based on the findings, the following are recommended among others: there is need for management of universities to make entrepreneurship education a compulsory course to all departments as this will help to direct youth’s attitude towards self-employment, Non-govermental Organizations and philantropists should also do more in the area of start-up capital for the students who indicated strong self-employment intention to help them actualize their intention.
- ItemPERCEPTION OF YOUTHS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING ON THE WILLINGNESS AND STRATEGIES TO START-UP BUSINESS VENTURE(Department of Business and Entrepreneurship Education, Kwara State University, Malete, 2020-08) Mamman, J.SEntrepreneurship is viewed as an effective tool not only for curbing unemployment, impoverishment, and under-development in developing nations, but also as a means for speedy economic growth in both developed and developing nations. This study examined the perception of youths of the effectiveness of Entrepreneurship Training on the willingness and strategies to start-up a business venture. Two purposes and research questions were raised for the study. The study used qualitative research methods in addressing the research questions. The population of the study comprises youths across the districts in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. A total sample of 245 youths was selected from the population of the study. The sample was selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The identified stratum was the districts in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The participants were trained for one month, thereafter, focus group discussion was conducted with the youths after the training to gather the data for the study. The focus group discussion guide was designed by the researchers and is made up of nine open-ended questions. The qualitative data gathered were transcribed and analyzed using content analysis to determine the relevant themes. The study found that youths have a positive perception of the effectiveness of entrepreneurship training on willingness and strategies to start-up entrepreneurship business. Based on the findings, the study concludes that entrepreneurship training is effective in helping youths to have the willingness and learn the strategies to start-up a business venture. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that non-governmental organizations, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals should organize entrepreneurship training for youths to help create entrepreneurship willingness in them. This will lead to poverty reduction when the willingness is translated into practice.
