Technical Report on Occurrence of Iron Mineralization around Owa-Onire, Sheet 224 Osi NW, Southwestern Nigeria
    (TERRA AQUA ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANT LIMITED, 2024-08-20) Ajadi, J; Bankole, S. I; Issa U; Jimoh, A. Y
The reported iron deposit around Owa Onire is located within sheets 224 Osi NW topographic map and bounded by latitudes 8o19’30’’N to 8o20’45’’N and longitudes 5o05’15’’E and 5o 09’15’’E, covering about 200 cadastral units, and accessible from Oke Onigbin through Ora Road. A cursory geological spot check was carried out, involving sample grabbing which was analyzed to determine the economic potentials of the iron mineralization. Field observation revealed that the iron deposit around the study area is composed of ferruginous metasediments intercalating with quartzitic bands. The prospect investigation required sub-surface exploration through pitting and ground geophysical survey along with pre-defined profiles to obtain information on subsurface geology and possible mineralization thickness. Over 30 grab ore samples were obtained out of which Four (4) were selected for mineralogy, ore microscopy, and geochemical elemental composition analysis. This pre-feasibility study sought to generate an idea of the exploitability of the reported iron mineralization in the study area for the purpose of recommending the deposit for further detailed investigation. The surface geological observations were complemented by aeromagnetic data in order to establish regional structural trends, define lithological boundaries, and mineralization extent.
