Corruption and Law Making in the Nigeria House of Representative from 2007 to 2011
(Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt, 2016-03-01) Araba, Akeem Ayanda and Lawal, Ahmad Akanni
The principal function of the Legislative arm of government is to legislate and make laws for good governance by the provisions of the constitution. The Legislative power is vested in the National Assembly which consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives while the Legislative power of a state is vested in the State House of Assembly. But the atrocities of corruption been perpetrated by the legislative arms have redefined the constitutional duties of the law-making bodies. This paper seeks to address the Corruption and Lawmaking in the Nigeria House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011. The paper discusses the synergy between political corruption and leadership. It also investigates the links between financial corruption and national development. The elite theoretical perspective is adopted for the study to determine the problem.
