- ItemCorner Rules Method of Solving Transportation Problem(Earthline Publisher, 2022-07-07) Aliu, T.O.; Aderinto, Y. O.; Issa, K.Several approaches have been advanced for solving transportation problems. The most prominent of them in various text being, North West Corner Rule(NWCR), Least Cost Method(LCM), and Vogel’s Approximation Method(VAM). This paper considered three additional corner rules, which are North East Corner Rule(NECR), South West Corner Rule(SWCR) and South East Corner Rule(SECR). Algorithms ware provided for obtaining initial feasible solution to Transportation Problems. Three test examples were considered using the rules. The results revealed that the NECR and SWCR have equal result. While NWCR and SECR also produce the same result. NECR and SWCR however, better minimize transportation cost. The two methods are therefore recommended for use in any business organization requiring shipment of products.
- ItemExperimental Measurement of Signals Attenuation of Sobi FM AT VHF along Ilorin -Jebba road(Nigerian Journal of Physics, 2022) Ajani, A.S.; Egbeyale, G.B.; Yusuf, O.A.; Aliu, T.O.The study of the propagation loss at very high frequency (VHF) band precisely 101.9 MHz (Sobi FM) signals was carried out in this research. It involves Experimental measurement and theoretical calculation using the existing Friis [FA] and Free Space attenuation [FSA] formula to determine the attenuation and the fade margin of 101.9MHz (Sobi FM) signals along Ilorin (Lat 80541; Long 40551E) – Jebba (Lat 90111N; Long 40821E) links, in Nigeria. The experimental measurement campaign was achieved by using an appropriately designed dipole antenna, using spectrum analyzer to determine the attenuation and the fade margin at regular intervals of two kilometers (2 km) from the base station, up to sixty kilometers (60 km) along the chosen links. The analytical models were obtained in form of polynomial equations for received power, measured attenuation and the fade margin of the signals. The measured results were compared with the calculated results. The calculated results correlated with the measurements (Correlation coefficient value R2 = 1), but gave deviation when compared with the measurements (Chi-square values equal zero for received power, measured attenuation and the fade margin). The variance of the results for the existing formula with the measurements were adjudged to hills, valleys, trees and bends along the links. The highest value of the fade margin obtained (75.89 dB) has not exceeded the receiver’s sensitivity of 80 dB, which implies that the radio-signals can be improved, by increasing the height and the power of transmitting antenna. This research hopes to give information to Sobi FM transmitting station or intending transmission companies on area to improve should there be a need to upgrade or redirecting their transmission signals.
- ItemNumerical Solution of Two dimensional Poison and Laplace Equation(Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Kwara State, 2017) Aliu, T.O.; O.M. Bamigbola; Montaz AliThe study identifies the use of Finite Element Method with both rectangular and Triangular elements in solving two di- mensional problems with Dirichlet boundary condition in a rectangular domain. We use the product functions of linear polynomial basis constructed by (Aliu & Bamigbola, 2014) on the rectangular elements. Attempt was made at con- structing the basis functions for Triangular elements. The Finite Difference scheme was also used for comparison. The results obtained using both the rectangular and triangular elements via the finite element method and the Central Fi- nite Difference Scheme compared favourably with the exact solution. The rectangular element however gives a better approximation.
