(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, 2022) Ajani, Florence Olabisi; Nallah, Bilqees Jumai
Academic libraries are considered the information centre and backbone of the institution to which they are attached. They acquire and organize information materials and services to support the teaching, learning and research objectives of the institution. In the past, academic libraries are usually considered as the physical structure that house the print books, journals, theses/dissertations, reference materials etc. but now this has changed, with the advancements in ICT tools, we are now in the era of electronic materials/resources. To cope with the challenges of COVID 19 pandemic that has emphasized the need for a more online learning platforms to keep staff and library users safe, academic libraries will need to provide online information resources and services to suit the present realities. Academic libraries will have to redefine their services to adequately provide information resources and services to support the objectives of the parent institution. This paper suggests strategies and services that academic libraries can adopt to cope with the changes in learning environment and sustain their services post COVID-19 era.
