- ItemAffectivity and Social Adjustment as Predictors of Librarians’ User Relation: Evidence from Nigerian Librarians’ SelfRating(Universitas Airlangga Surabaya, Indonesia, 2021) Adeyemi, Ismail Olatunji; Temim, Fatima Modupe; Uzamot, Waliyah OmotayoBackground of the study: It has been observed that there is knowledge gap on how librarians’ affectivity and social adjustment predict user relation. Moreover, it has been shown overtime that human’s behavioural qualities may have a possible effect on interaction with people. All of these concerns necessitate this study. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between affectivity, social adjustment and Nigerian librarians’ user relation. Method: The authors adopt correlational research design and web-based questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Purposive sampling technique was adopted for the study. The total response rate was 178. Findings: It was found in the study that negative affectivity such as threat and hostility have poor effect on user relation. Contrastingly, it was revealed that positive affectivity such as subjective well-being and happiness ensure optimal library user relation. It was revealed that Nigerian librarians see opportunities in user relation, which can be used to improve the library image and effective service inside. Conclusion: It was established that affectivity has statistically significant relationship with user relation. Also, it was shown that social adjustment has statistical significant relationship with user relation.
- ItemAn Empirical Study on the Traits of Information Literacy Level among Senior Secondary Students in Ilorin, Nigeria(The University Libraries of the University of Nebraska--Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, 2017) Adeyemi, Ismail OlatunjiThis study examined the information literacy level among secondary school students in Ilorin. This study adopted the disproportionate stratified random sampling techniques. The total population for this study 1958 students. The data for the study was collected through structured questionnaires which were distributed randomly to 210 students. However, only 192 copies of the questionnaire were properly filled and returned for analysis and thus form the basis as sample for this study (N=192). The findings of the study revealed that more than half of the respondents can identify lack of knowledge in a subject area. The study also revealed that majority of the respondents can articulate current knowledge on a topic. Furthermore, it also revealed that a large number of the respondents cannot identify specialist search tools. Also, from the study, it was revealed that noteworthy numbers of the respondents do not use Boolean operators in their search for information. Conclusively, the study shows that information literacy skills are essential for every human being because information is vital to everyone and every walk of life. It was recommended that policy makers in education sector should try and introduce information literacy skills as a subject in the secondary school curriculum so as to ensure that the students have the necessary information literacy skills rather than developing these skills through self-education. It was also recommended that teachers that have skills in information literacy skills should be employed as the facilitators in this subject.
- ItemAwareness and Usage of Reference Management Software: Perspectives of Faculty Members of University of Ilorin Nigeria(The Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, Indonesia, 2020) Adeyemi, Ismail Olatunji; Sulaiman, Kabir Alabi; Akanbi, Lawal MohammedThis study examined the awareness and usage of reference management software by faculty members of the University of Ilorin. Descriptive survey method was adopted for the study. The Web-based questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. The total population of the study is 1,496 people. From which the sample size of 306 was selected using Raosoft sample size calculator and total responses of 98 was returned, which represents the unit of analysis. Hence, the response rate for the study is 32%. The findings of the study revealed that EndNote and Mendeley are the most used reference management software by faculty members of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). Results show that faculty members were aware of EndNote and Mendeley to great extent. It was found that there is low usage of reference management software among faculty of the University of Ilorin; and that most of the faculty members have never used ProCites, Bookends, Papers and Qiqqa. It was concluded that there is a positive significant relationship between awareness and usage of reference management software by faculty members. It was recommended that faculty members should be trained on how to make use of the most used reference management software.
- ItemAWARENESS, KNOWLEDGE AND USE OF ALTMETRICS AS MEASURE OF RESEARCH IMP MEASURE OF RESEARCH IMPACT: NIGERI T: NIGERIAN LIBRARI AN LIBRARIANS’ PERSPECTIVES(The University Libraries of the University of Nebraska--Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, 2022) Adeyemi, Ismail OlatunjiOver time, there has been the alternative metrics complementing the traditional citation counts in scientometrics. The awareness, knowledge and use of these altmetrics tools in measuring research impact are unknown among Nigerian librarians. Hence, this study examined the awareness, knowledge and use of altmetrics as measure of research impact by Nigerian librarians. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and total population sampling technique was adopted. Web-based questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Two hundred and eighty-five responses were collected from the participants. The findings of the study show that most Nigerian librarians were not aware of altmetrics as non-traditional complement to traditional citation count. Results show that Nigerian librarians did not use altmetrics for measuring their research impact. It was shown that there was inadequate knowledge of altmetrics and it was unpopular among Nigerian librarians in measuring research impact. It was found that there was no statistically positive significant (r = .482**; P < .022) relationship between awareness and use of altmetrics to measure research impact by Nigerian librarians. Results show that there was no statistically positive significant (r = .374**; P < .039) relationship between librarians’ knowledge and use of altmetrics to measure research impact. It was concluded that that most Nigerian librarians use Twitter to seek altmetrics compared to other social media networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn which have very minimal usage.
- ItemCopyright Issues in Nigeria: Analysis of Nigerian Copyright Commission Cases Between the Years 2008 - 2018(Research Institute for Knowledge Content Development & Technology (RIKCDT), Konkuk University, Korea PR, 2020) Adeyemi, Ismail OlatunjiNigeria Copyright Commission is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring adherence to the copyright law in Nigeria. However, it has been observed in the last decade that copyright right issue is still rampant in Nigeria. Therefore, this study analyzed cases that the Commission in involved in between years 2008 to 2018. The study adopted citation analysis. The study collected data from three selected law reports, which include Intellectual Property Law Reports, Nigerian Weekly Law Reports and Nigeria Law Intellectual Property Watch. It was found that Nigerian Law Intellectual Property Watch has the highest number of reports of cases involving Nigerian Copyright Commission while none was reported by Nigerian Weekly Law Reports. It was also found that most of the cases handled by the Commission were on copyright infringement. The study concludes that Nigerian Copyright Commission has been paying credible attention to issue that surrounds software infringement but there has been little attention paid to book piracy. Moreover, it was established that the poor attention given to book piracy may entrench the publication of pirated copy and would subsequently lead to poor library service provision at the long run.
- ItemCovid-19-Related Health Information Needs and Seeking Behavior among Lagos State Inhabitants of Nigeria(Regional Information Center for Science and Technology, Iran, 2022) Adeyemi, Ismail Olatunji; Esan, Oluwatosin GeraldThe outbreak of COVID-19 spurs the need for information among the Nigerian populace, and people exhibit different information-seeking behavior. Understanding information needs and seeking behavior becomes expedient to ensure the adequate provision of information to Nigerians in real-time. Hence, this study examined the health information needed and seeking behavior of Nigerians about COVID-19. The authors adopted a descriptive survey method using a Web-based questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 321 people. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the hypothesis was tested using Pearson’s product-moment correlation. Results show that the Nigerian populace needs information on treatments/vaccines and preventive measures of the pandemic disease; it was revealed that the majority of Nigerians actively search for information about the disease; it was shown in the findings that social media is the most accessed information source; and findings revealed that environmental, demographic, interpersonal and financial factors affect information-seeking behavior. Findings show a statistically significant relationship between health information need and information-seeking behavior of Nigerians. The study concludes that most Nigerians health information needs center on treatment/vaccines of disease while most actively search for information on the disease
- ItemInformation Sharing and Evaluation as Determinants of Spread of Fake News on Social Media among Nigerian Youths: Experience from COVID-19 Pandemic(Research Institute for Knowledge Content Development & Technology (RIKCDT), Konkuk University, Korea PR, 2020) Sulaiman, Kabir Alabi; Adeyemi, Ismail Olatunji; Ayegun, IbrahimThis study examined information sharing and evaluation as determinants of the spread of fake news among Nigerian youths on social media using experience from COVID-19 pandemic. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and a Web-based questionnaire (Google Forms) was used to collect data for the study. The total responses of 278 were collected from the participants, which represents the unit of analysis. The finding of the study revealed that most Nigerian youths used Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram to share information on COVID-19. However, only a few Nigerians used Linkedln and other types of social media to share information on COVID-19. It was also found that building a relationship with social media communities, enjoyment and risk taking, and political inclination influence the sharing behavior of Nigerian youths during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results show that social media handle/page found sharing of fake news on COVID-19 especially on the treatment, vaccines numbers of cases and symptoms. The study concludes that there is a positive relationship between information evaluation and the spreading of fake news on COVID-19 among Nigerians. Information sharing and evaluation should be done with the utmost level of objectivity and sincerity.
- ItemPerceived Usefulness and Ease of Use as Predictors of Early-year Lawyers Satisfaction with Law Pavilion Electronic Law Reports(Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, 2020) Adeyemi, Ismail Olatunji; Issa, Abdulwahab OlanrewajuThis study examined perceived usefulness and ease of use as predictors of early-year lawyers’ satisfaction with Law Pavilion Electronic Law Reports (LPELR). Descriptive survey design was adopted and questionnaire was the instrument used to collect data. Total population sampling was adopted to select sample size. A total of 300 copies of questionnaires were administered on the respondents. However, only 248 copies were returned completely filled and validated for the study. The Cronbach alpha reliability for the study is 0.782. It was found that there is strong positive relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived satisfaction and that there is positive relationship between perceived usefulness and perceived satisfaction. The study findings show that electronic law reports are easy to use and useful for early-year lawyers in their legal research. The study concludes that, as much as the law profession is conservative in nature, the use of e-law reports is making inroads to the profession. It was recommended that technical service provision by LPELR should be improved significantly. Above all, electronic law reports licensors should ensure that task importance of electronic law reports is given utmost consideration when they are designing the system qualities of e-law reports.
- ItemPsychosocial Consequences of Intensive Internet Use among Undergraduates of Universities in Ilorin Metropolis(The University Libraries of the University of Nebraska--Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, 2018) Akanbi, Lawal M.; Sulaiman, Kabir Alabi; Adeyemi, Ismail OlatunjiThis study was carried out to investigate the psychosocial consequences of intensive internet use among undergraduate of universities in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. This study sought to determine the psychosocial consequences of intensive internet use on the basis on gender, age, level of study and marital status (University of Ilorin and AL-HIKMAH University) universities within Ilorin metropolis. A self-developed questionnaire tagged questionnaire on psychosocial consequences of intensive internet use (PCIIU) was used to collect data from the respondents for the study. Five research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance, data collected were analyzed through analysis of variance (ANOVA). The study revealed that psychosocial consequences of intensive internet use are establishing using new relationship with fellow online users; incur more financial cost on internet; spending more time online than going out with others and there was significant gender difference in the psychosocial consequences of intensive internet use among undergraduate students of universities in Ilorin metropolis base on age, level, gender and marital status. Therefore, the following recommendations were made that counsellors should develop strategies to handle internet addiction among the youth and counsellor should encourage the formation of club that will promote safe and responsible internet use among students (peer counselling) and school administrators, teachers and school counsellors should work collaboratively to identify and assist students with or prone to internet addiction before it will have devastating consequences on the addicts and the society at large.
