(Biannual Review of Glorious Vision University, 2026-09) Abdulrahman, Halima Seriki; Shaibu Agnes Joe
This study examined listeners' perception of the credibility, relevance and contribution of the Imojuto Owo Ara Ilu radio programme to accountability in governance in Kwara State. The Perception Theory was anchored as the theoretical framework while a quantitative design was adopted through survey method. Data were collected from 400 listeners selected through purposive, stratified and accidental sampling techniques across Ilorin West, Ilorin East and Ilorin South Local Government Areas. Findings revealed that listeners perceived the programme as highly credible and relevant (Grand Mean = 3.25, SD = 0.79), with the majority of respondents agreed that the programme provides credible governance information, discusses governance issues objectively and promotes public interest in governance. The study also found that respondents perceived the programme as making significant contributions to accountability in governance (Grand Mean = 3.24, SD = 0.76), with majority agreed that the programme increases public awareness of government responsibilities and helps citizens monitor public projects and government spending. However, the study concluded that the Imojuto Owo Ara Ilu programme serves as a credible platform for promoting accountability and strengthening public engagement with governance issues in Kwara State. Thus, the study recommended that programme producers deepen investigative governance content, maintain editorial independence and expand audience participation through interactive communication channels.
