| dc.description.abstract | Globalization of knowledge economy has made acquisition of entrepreneurship education very imperative for undergraduates in Nigerian universities. The need for the students to be equipped with entrepreneurship core skills acquisition cannot be overemphasized to reduce unemployment to the barest minimum if not completely eradicated. However, the graduates of Nigerian universities are not trained to be self-reliant, innovative and creative, but with mindset to depend solely on white collar jobs after graduation for sustenance. Thus, the study examined entrepreneurship core-skills acquisition and public university graduates' self-employability in North-Central Nigeria. Descriptive research design was adopted for this study. The population of the study comprised 11 directors of entrepreneurship training centers of public universities of North-Central, Nigeria and the 400 level students of the public university North-Central, Nigeria. Proportional random sampling technique was used to select eight public universities. Questionnaire instrument titled “Entrepreneurship Training Questionnaires (ETQ) and Core-Skills Acquisition Questionnaire (CSAQ) were used to collected data for the study. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions raised in the study. The findings of the study Acquisition of Entrepreneurship Core-skills and Self-employability of University Graduates' in North-central Nigeria. revealed that communication skills has highest mean of 4.24, followed by vocational skills with the mean of 2.76 while managerial skills acquisition has the lowest with the mean of 2.42. The level of graduates self employability was low. It was recommended among others that university administrators should partner with the community in entrepreneurship training programmes that will make the university graduates become job creators and employers of labour as against job seekers. | |
