Everyone is currently capable of being an online publisher and may broadcast anything responsibly, recklessly or negligently. The chapter therefore examines the extent to which a person may publish anything about another without caring if the information is true or not. Using the extant laws and international instruments, the chapter finds that the extent and quantum of defamation is redefined by social media. It therefore concludes that the problems of inter-jurisdictional conflicts and anonymity created by the advent and development if social media are not insurmountable.
