| dc.description.abstract | This chapter examines the concept of legislative autonomy and independence within the Nigerian federal structure, focusing on the challenges and the implications for democratic governance and development. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, outlines the structure of federalism, including the roles and powers of the legislative arm, especially at the Federal and state government levels. However, in practice, the extent to which these legislative bodies operative independently and effectively is a subject of ongoing and scholarly inquiry. The chapter utilizes doctrinal method to analyze legal frameworks, access practical challenges and evaluate the impact of legislative autonomy on development outcome. | |
