| dc.description.abstract | Mr Vice Chancellor Sir, for me, it is evidence of grace and a mark of great honour to deliver the 9th Inaugural lecture of Kwara State University to this very distinguished audience here today. I am highly delighted that I have this unique opportunity to share my research experiences and findings over the years with the town and gown. An occasion such as this is what every academic looks forward to, and for me, it is a dream come true. For this I give all glory and praise to God who makes all things beautiful in His own time (Ecclesiastes 3: 11). It is indeed a great joy for me that I have this rare privilege of presenting the first Inaugural lecture from the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences of our great University, the very first from KWASU Biochemistry and the first to be presented by a sitting Dean of Faculty in our University - I sincerely thank God for this uncommon privilege. Mr Vice Chancellor sir, Biochemistry was one of the foundation programmes of Kwara State University in 2009, although it admitted its first set of students a year later. At inception, KWASU Biochemistry was a unit, domiciled in the Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology which as at that time also housed Microbiology, Zoology and Plant and Environmental Biology units. This status was maintained until 2017 when the Department of Biochemistry was carved out of Biosciences and Biotechnology to become a full-fledged Department and was thereafter domiciled in the School of Basic Medical Sciences alongside Public Health and Medical Laboratory Science Departments. In that same year, the nomenclature of the Department was changed to Medical Biochemistry and Pharmacology. With the advent of the present KWASU management under the leadership of our dynamic Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN and following the change from Collegiate to Faculty system, Biochemistry became one of the Departments in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences. The Biochemistry programme is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission and has produced six (6) sets of graduates. Four of the graduates of the programme are presently employed as members of the academic staff in the Department.*-6***// | |
